Comments: To put more taxes on a habit that anyone wants to quit but can not is absolutely ridiculous. They encouraged this habit for many many years because the companies had their ear because of all the money the companies spent on them and now THEY have decided that these people should suffer more because they can't have THEIR FIX

Comments: I see a society that Adolph Hitler envisioned. Slowly and silently we are being forced into dictatorship under the guise of "For our own good"! Each day it is legislated to us how stupid we are and how the government has a better idea. Since the new settlers landed in this country, we have fought government oppression, remember the Boston Tea party Now, we allow a selected few dictate what is best for us. Government has way too much say in our lives. This country was founded on individuals rights to choose. We have the right to pay taxes. We do have some rights... Well, I guess it is in our best intrest to hike cigarettes up two dollars a pack. Well, as an american, I can tell you that if nothing else we are a resourcefull people. I choose to live by the ideals set down by my for fathers. If you study history, please take a look at prohibition. Our all knowing government declared that drinking would be illegal. Our government decided what was best for us. It didnt work. It spawned speak-easys, gangsters, boot legging. Did it deter drinking The american public became more resiliant, more resourcefull. We did not allow government to dictate what we would do. It was repealed. We cherish our freedom in America. That is what this country is all about. You cannot silence us or suppress us. I am sitting here enjoying a cigarette, I can afford these now and I do not intend to quit. I would love to because of the health issues, but, as an American, it is my choice. Tobacco is a crop, right It can be grown, like lettuce or peas. If I want to smoke, I will. When there was prohibition people learned to make it. It was overturned. Thank you for hearing me

Comments: Dear President Bush, Compare the lives lost due to cigarettes,to the lives lost due to alcohol and polluted air. What's up with picking on the smokers to tax every time we turn around we are paying a higher tax If it's about clean air, check out our O-ZONE LAYER cigarettes didn't cause it. There is so much pollution in our environment alone which makes the air we all breath unclean, impure, contaminate;dirty. That all alone can cause cancer, heart decease, and other major medical problems.
