Name: Ronald R. Akers on Jul 1, 2012State: IllinoisCountry: United StatesComments: In Hilltop Mobile Home Park, this is a growing problem. I had two cars parking in tandum, outside my home, to get at me. It shook my home from front to back. By the time I could get outside, they would leave. The park got it stopped. I don't know who they were. I was worried for my family and pets. Now, more and more cars are doing it to a less degree, but, still way to loud. You feel helpless if law are not inforced, and, made more severe against the abusors. Thank-you, for your time.Flag

Since the legal remedies are not working, I and others in our neighborhood have come up with a way to let these individuals know they are not wanted around here. I wont comment on what that is but it lets them know they are not wanted around here.Flag

Instead the police would rather sit and issue speeding tickets all day to the middle class ont he way to and from work while the druggies, continue the terror on communities like ours. Remember to make it an issue with your representative next election or vote them out.Flag

Name:
Nick Hoffman on Aug 27, 2012
State: OhioCountry: United StatesComments: Three big things to keep in mind here: 1) There are MANY peer-reviewed medical articles about the effects of noise pollution on human health. Problems ranging from severe stress, secondary and primary heart problems (linked to hormone changes due to stress), sleeping disorders and a large number of secondary health problems arising from these. 2) A "right to private enjoyment" clause written into nearly every city and state set of laws pertaining to home ownership and rental. However, when it comes to actually DEFENDING our rights in this regard, the police fall desperately short. This is DESPITE NOISE ORDINANCES in place in many cities. It's understandable that these laws are difficult to enforce, but because of the medical correlation between noise and disease states it's very reasonable to call boomcars a form of ASSAULT as well as civil disturbance. Actual physical harm is done to use every time we are woken up at 3am by noise. 3) Inaction. Very little is needed to elaborate on this. This issue needs to be brought to the attention of MANY more people in the country if it's ever going to change. **I like the 'noise interference' argument as well, but unfortunately it may not hold up in congress since emergency sirens are far higher pitched and cut right through the bass frequency range. That's old science, it's just how our cochlea works. But it would be true that lower decibel bass ranges could be washed out (such as certain engine noise) which could endanger kids in the street. Either way, this is a problem. It's TOO EASY for people to get a hold of extremely loud technology that screws over everyone in their neighborhood. Suggestions: A) Cars found containing sub-woofers above a certain wattage should be impounded and owner should be responsible for all fees associated with towing, the device being removed by a technician AND the impound fees (that will make them think twice AND it will bring in some revenue). Who cares? Take their car away. Would you let a child keep an air rifle if he shot another child? No. Well, boom-cars are just bigger/fancier toys wielded by people who are not capable of playing respectfully. B) Tack on assault and civil disturbance charges for repeat offenders. Could lead to jail time. C) Create a tip-line (anonymous) where neighbors of people with boomcars can report the license plate of the offending vehicle. Feed these plates into a database accessible by police. Then they will have better ideas of where to look for these vehicles.Flag -
