Name: Johnny Bob on Aug 2, 2002State: ILCountry: USComments: It should be illegal to modify a vehicle's from-the-factory sound system to intentionally increase the decibel level. Businesses which install large amplifiers or boom boxes in cars must be shut down, made 100% illegal. Vehicle owners who violate this law should be put in jail, fined, and their property confiscated!Flag

Name: James Kaufmann on Aug 3, 2002State: NYCountry: USComments: I agree with the spirit of the petition, so I am submitting my "signature." However, I think it can and should be improved upon. There are direct quotes from the D.O.J. report that are not given proper citation. Also, I don't think it serves our cause to be the judge of what should be termed "music." On the contrary, we should emphasize that it is not the type of music, but the barrier-penetrating low frequency, high intesity component that causes the problem.Flag

It has got to the point where one cannot live in a town or city and expect not to be offended by these people. I believe that these acts constitute violations of fundamental American rights.Flag

Name: Chris Stiles on Aug 7, 2002State: CACountry: USComments: 20 years ago, I never would have believed that the day would come when I would not be able to walk the streets in my community or visit a park or go to a shopping mall with out being assaulted by POUNDING and THUMPING concussion waves of low frequency bass. This industry needs to be shut down and wiped out and driven into bankruptcy via aggressive law suits, fines and siezures of equipment. I will back organizations that are sending the message from the grass roots to the political leaders that this is no longer tolerable. Thank you.Flag

Like Cleveland; all cities & towns should have the power to confiscate their vehicles and be made to pay all of the court costs plus, a large sum to retreive their vehicles. Or a sentence of 1 year in jail/or both, after first offense.Flag

Name: Rev. White Bear Barnard on Aug 14, 2002State: FLCountry: USComments: To Whom This May Concern, We have complained for over 3yrs to local law enforcement with not results. An Elder neighbor, a WWII, Korean & Vietnam Veteran died because of this noise, he had told me that the low frequency caused the steel plate in his head to vibrate, he like myself also had presure on the heart from this 'boom boom' noise. If the law cannot stop this problem then 'we' the citizens must take the law into our own hands, using the Judicial system and bring a lawsuit against these companies whose only goal is profits and not the health of humans. Thank you for creating this petition to bring a voice to the voiceless.Flag

All of the current periodicals and class reserve materials are kept in a room with reinforced concrete walls and some of the thickest glass I've ever seen and you can still here bass! During the school year, boom cars go by in a continuous stream and make it impossible to read. If you have a class assignment involving the materials in the room, you have to submit yourself to hours of torture at the hands of boom car drivers.Flag

Noise is compensation for either lack of intellectual or sexual ability. It is an affront to normal, hardworking people who simply have the right to peace and quiet.Flag

I live in a retirement mobile home community across the street from his house, and I get to hear and feel it 7 or 8 times a day, every single day. I've called the police and stopped him twice, but he always starts it up again.Flag

Name: Kay Brown on Sep 7, 2002State: MICountry: USComments: In the last apartment complex I lived in, I was surrounded by 3 seperate apartments, and all those neighbors played their stereos so loud, I had anxiety attacks, threw things at the walls, pounded on the walls, and complained to the manager. Those neighbors "ganged" up on me, so to speak, and told the manager I was harrassing them! I was evicted from the apartment, now live in another apartment, and going through problems with just one next door neighbor who only plays his music loud on weekends. I've only lived in this apartment since late May, but moving into a mobile home in a few weeks. I am extremely sensitive to noise, expecially to BOOM cars, loud trucks, rude Harley Davidson riders with no exhaust system. Everyone just wants to be rude, loud, aggressive, and get attention any way they can! As someone with Bipolar Disorder, I've known what it's like to feel suicidal / homicidal due to excessive noise. Bascially, it all drives me insane! The new mobile home park I'll be moving into seems to be quiet, but if I have any trouble with noise and the park manager does nothing about it, I refuse to move once again. I will take action with City Hall or whomever I have to contact to help with this problem. Excessive noise is intolerable, and it's unfortunate that many people have turned their backs on this problem, or choose to desensitive themselves to their environment.Flag

Name: Nancy Toler on Sep 16, 2002State: AZCountry: USComments: I couldn't agree more! When I read in today's Arizona Republic that Ford, Mazda and Nissan car companies are teaming with major audio companies to offer megawatt sound systems in entry-level cars, I felt absolutely sick to my stomach. My first thought was, are they completely out of their minds! That awful noise chased us from our last community, and I can only hope that someone with the power to do something is finally paying attention.Flag
