North Wales needs a motorway -the people say NO! (A55/A494)

In these times of heightened public sensitivity to the threats posed by global-warming, airborne pollution and conservation of resources, we have to urgently apply fresh thinking to our transport needs. Our under-utilised coastal rail system must be brought up to 21 century standards –just as is happening throughout continental Europe and we must explore every alternative which might help REDUCE the usage and reliance on our EXISTING roads.

Transport Wales –and the politicians we have elected to direct them, MUST now acknowledge the wide-spread PUBLIC CONCERN in regard to the most recent research and Royal Commission reports on Health-Impact, carbon-footprint and sustainability. “More of the same\", can never again be an option.

This PETITION is a unique opportunity for residents, business-folk and students to record PERSONAL comment and register opposition to what is currently proposed.
You are invited to affirm YOUR opposition to a road-building program of a scale never before seen in Wales; a dramatic widening with numerous extra lanes that would make our adequate, speed-regulated A494/A55 North Wales dual-carriageway into a full-blown motorway! By adding your name you will be counted amongst the thousands now saying –loud and clear- to our elected members in our COUNCILS, PARLIAMENT and our beloved WELSH ASSEMBLY, “We don\'t want a \"Motorway\" -across the top of Wales\"!

Concerted opposition from communities throughout North Wales has already brought about a PUBLIC INQUIRY which will take place during September 2007. The way forward will be via renewed POLITICAL WILL and a comprehensive, rational, all-mode transport review. A review of ALL the transport options that is transparent and independent of any would-be constructors. A review that, is forward-thinking -and characterised by a 2007 mindset.

We believe THIS is the ONLY way to bring about a sustainable REAL improvement for transport in North Wales. And until that has taken place, we want ALL current large-scale proposals for North Wales\' roads to be halted!
