Name: Jonathan A. Karty on Oct 3, 2012Comments: This privatization proposal sacrifices long term parking stability and internal controls of cost and policies for a short term capital infusion. I point to the leasing of the Chicago City Parking meters and the Indiana Toll Road as examples of privatization not being all it was cracked up to be. If more money is needed to cover parking costs, IU Parking Ops can raise the revenue itself without a private entity adding the need to make a profit.Flag

Another point is....that in cases where for whatever reason the parking tag has been left at home (in a second car, for instance) and staff have received a parking ticket, it has been relatively easy to appeal. That may not be the case with a private company.Flag

Name: De Witt Douglas Kilgore on Oct 3, 2012Comments: I fully concur with the sentiments and the research presented in this petition. If the university persists in parceling out its physical plant to private vendors we can expect a loss of control that will damage ease of access and mobility on a very busy campus. I would prefer any solution that would demonstrate more strategic and focused thought other than simply trying off-load costs for the short term.Flag

There have been many innovative solutions by P.O. to a myriad of problems that an outsider would not take into consideration: safety issues, motorist aid, and fair parking rules are invaluable to students, faculty and staff alike.Flag

Name: Randy J. Long on Oct 3, 2012Comments: I am a member of the School of Fine Arts faculty and a full professor and soon to be emeritus. I am very concerned at the increases in cost of parking at IU if parking is privatized. The School of Fine Art Fine Arts has Grunwald Gallery openings and lectures on Friday evenings and we need to make certain that guest without IU stickers will not be ticketed for attending our events. This is the same with people wish to come to the IU Auditorium, Music Arts Center, the IU Cinema and many other events on campus. A private company could drastically change the parking situation at IU to the disadvantage of faculty, students, and the community.Flag
