We urge the City of Palo Alto to not create the proposed Palo Alto Matadero Creek Trail, which would run across dangerous traffic and run right next to many residents’ backyards. Many people have voiced different concerns regarding this project, including: dangerous traffic crossings, unique creek hazards, crime, safety, difficulty of policing, litter, pollution, graffiti, privacy, noise, property devaluation, lack of value proposition, lack of community outreach, and whether the high project cost of $2.5 million (plus ongoing maintenance costs) is the best use of limited government resources. Furthermore, there may be better and less expensive alternative routes (e.g., existing side streets, underpasses, overpasses, and parallel routes).
