THIS PETITION HAS NOW BEEN CLOSED, AS THE SPORTS DEPARTMENT HAS GIVEN US A CHOICE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT TO PURCHASE A SPORTJACKET (reducing the price to £30 if the jacket is not purchased).

Sport unites us. It's a means to unwind, relax and socialise outside of a classroom environment. But engaging in sports is now no longer an option for many students at City University. This is because the membership fee is being increased from an already high 25 to 45 pounds. This increase is unacceptable, especially as from what has been announced, the extra fees go towards a generic sportjacket with the City logo.

Numerous teams are already undermanned as it stands, and an increase in fees will serve to further reduce not only team numbers but also team spirit. This vast increase in fees is a hidden cost; one that many students going to university may not have accounted for. Students that may not have engaged in sports before or are unsure whether or not to join university teams may well be inclined not to do so, as a result of this ridiculous membership fee. We cannot allow this to happen. Sign the petition, and let Bill Thompson know that you will not accept the new sports membership fee.
