Name: Jarod Hamilton on Nov 24, 2012Comments: “The purchase of THIS land will complete an existing gap in the COSS area & is strategically significantly”, “Director of Works investigate the POSSIBILITY of Council utilising the site in the SHORT TERM”,”…then remediate”, “...funds allocated from COSS Trust Fund for the acquisition”. It was recommended $850 000 be used to purchase land from a trust fund that is for recreational public usage, environmental & wildlife protection etc and that the quarry section be remediated. What happened? Current zoning prohibits the area usage as a Resource Recovery Facility, why has concrete crushing already been happening in this location? Is the concrete dust piles stored correctly? Your development plan identifies benefits to the council such as central location, cost savings, meeting State environmental/recycling targets etc. I don’t think anyone would disagree with council using this type of facility; however the location is HIGHLY INNAPROPRIATE. It is too close to people’s homes & was purchased to be remediated for COSS usage. Your proposal seems short-sighted regarding potential Risk Management issues. The largest oversight does not mention that Clarence Road is too narrow, too steep & TOO DANGEROUS for trucks to be frequenting with pedestrians. The road has been devastated by council truck usage to date & this will increase. From the beginning of Clarence Rd to the Quarry entrance this road is in a constant state of disrepair. Immediately past the Quarry entrance where trucks do not go, the road is in good condition, as are side roads off Clarence Rd & other nearby entrances to roads in other estates. This is the single road in & out of the estate for over 1000 people. Danger’s regarding stockpiling materials & running machinery in a bush location is insane. GCC you have the opportunity to right 15yrs of inappropriate usage of COSS Trust Funds. Let’s work together in finding a more appropriate, safer location to recycle construction material. Let’s remediate this old Quarry site to ‘fill the strategic COSS gap’ so the Central Coast community can enjoy this site as originally intended. For those Councillors thinking of voting in favour of rezoning, I challenge you to go for a walk with a pedestrian such as a schoolchild on their way to the bus top before making your decision. If this site is not remediated, come, next council elections those counsellor’s whom vote in favour of rezoning this COSS site will have a whole suburb focused on making sure you are not re-elected into your current position.Should GCC use the COSS land site to recycle concrete (crush) & green waste?: I strongly disagree (should not use)Should GCC remediate the COSS site immediately as originally planned 15yrs ago?: I strongly agreeFlag

Name: Petra Taylor on Nov 24, 2012Comments: When buying my Home it was under the understanding that the Quarry will be regenerated. We chose our home under the understanding that we can live in peace and quiet and I am able to sleep throughout the day considering I am working night shift only. Now with the proposed changes you are putting my health in serious danger. As with the noise and dust pollution it will make it almost impossible for myself to find appropriate rest. This makes a mockery of future Home-owners to research the area they buy in as council seem to not keep to their promises and just do what they want. Please do reconsider your proposal as We did not choose to live near an Industrial zoning but a Bush land setting . regards Petra TaylorShould GCC use the COSS land site to recycle concrete (crush) & green waste?: I strongly disagree (should not use)Should GCC remediate the COSS site immediately as originally planned 15yrs ago?: I strongly agreeFlag

Comments: 16 years ago, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. 6 weeks later, my world came crashing down around me as he was diagnosed with the disease Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis affects breathing, digestion and life. The upside to my son's diagnosis, was the fact that we were living in Springfield, on the NSW Central Coast - not only were we close to the medical facilities my son so desperately needed, but we were living in a clean, healthy environment, with clean air - one of the most vital resources necessary to ensure my son lived beyond his teenage years. We have worked hard every minute of every day over the past 16 years, to maintain the health of my son. Unfortunately, Cystic Fibrosis has no cure, and as well as the numerous day to day medications and therapies my son receives, his lung disease has now progressed to a stage where he requires daily oxygen. The clean air in Springfield plays such a huge role in the health of my son. It is devastating to think that the council is happy to knowingly pollute our air and jeopardise not only the health of my son, but the health of so many others. I have fought hard to keep my son alive - please don't make his daily struggle to breathe any harder than it already is. He deserves so much more.
