Children as young as 8 years old are used as soldiers in militias and military groups in numerous countries in Africa including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Syria, Malawi, and more. The Bush Administration signed the Child Soldiers Protection Act into law in 2008. The purpose of the Act is to stop military funding from the United States to countries around the world that recruit or abduct children and use them as soldiers. However, since President Obama first took office, he issued national security waivers to allow the funding to continue - under the guise of anti-terrorism and peacekeeping funds. These funds are finding their way into the hands of the wrong people and governments in Africa and are being used to buy weapons keep conflicts going. As long as these civil wars and conflicts are engaged, the children of those African nations are at risk of becoming soldiers. Please sign this petition to let your voice be heard and tell President Obama that you will not stand for anymore waivers and that he needs to fully enforce the Act to protect the children of Africa.
