Comments: Talking back our country does not include turning our local schools over to the federal government and burdening teachers with another layer of regulation.Flag -

Name: Carrie Finnestead on Mar 15, 2013Comments: This UNfunded mandate will destroy schools where technology is still not implemented (mainly our most underfunded areas such as urban and rural schools.) With the current system of tenure and keeping the teachers who do not normally seek out "optional" training, we are selling off our childrens future. Many of our youngest and most well prepaired teachers cannot even earn a job or they are being cut from departments where they could be the leaders, due to budget decreases. This is on top of the rationale stated in the petition. This will prove to be a perfect storm. Take away the autonomy of the schools and the teachers. Impose an unfunded mandate. Rely on overworked teachers to again be voluntarily trained by districts already strapped for funding and Professional Development. I fear for the future of our children, our education system and our country's economic and creative future!Flag

Name: Christine Glazier on Mar 15, 2013Comments: I'm concerned our culture is becoming increasingly amalgamated. Every town has a Wal-Mart and a McDonald's. Does every child need to learn the same bland stuff as well? Let voters and school boards decide at a local level what our children need to learn and when. Please don't let what is uniquely Missouri get lost in the standardisation of our culture.Flag

Name: Mary Halter on Mar 15, 2013Comments: Our children are already dumb downed enough. My understanding is that learning calculus will be extremely hard to grasp from the way math is taught with this curriculum. As of now many of the children cannot read correctly or even write or spell. This sounds more like communism rather than freddom.Flag

Name: Tammy Leppin on Mar 15, 2013Comments: We must stop this. Our children are our future and they need to be taught how to think not just to know an anwser. They need to know how they got that answer. The government is just once more trying to indoctrinate our children to just accept what they say and not question what they are doing and what their agenda is.Flag

Name: Sarah Wiley on Mar 15, 2013Comments: This government propoganda machine at work in our public schools must be stopped! This needs to be revoked in the state of Missouri as soon as possible! This was sneaked in with the 'Stimulus' program and offers Federal money to states who use this sub-standard monstrosity. This also takes away all or any State control over our children's education and cedes it to the Federal government! I am pleading with Missouri's legislature to stop this atrocity that would change our children's lives by it's Socialist influence in our schools. Thank you for listening.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 15, 2013Comments: Core curriculum is another example of the Federal gov't controlling the states(the people)...in a fundamental way. Not only does it dumb down our students (critical thinking vs. process only) but it undermines local school boards/parents in having a say-so in what is taught. As far as I know the laws of Mathematics have not changed, yet some "genius" came up with "re-grouping" when it comes to teaching simple addition concepts. Having the core fully implemented will make home schooling impossible, as even those that home school will have to follow the core's testing standards! This is obscene and needs to be abolished. Bring back our education to the local level and get the Fed out! When a population is dumbed-down and unable to think for themselves,it makes control of those people so much easier. Watch out.Flag
