During the last few years there has been a lot of changes in the cross country skiing world. We've seen the sprint develop which is interesting but during the same time we've also seen changes to the longer races, which have transformed more and more into mass starts. The reason it has changed is because some TV companies think that a 50km race with individual start takes too much air time. They also believe that the viewers doesn't understand interval starts. We don't think that's true.
We think that the mass start is really bad TV! To watch a 50km race in mass start is really boring in most cases since almost all skiers are together in a lousy tempo until maybe 1 kilometers from the goal, where there is a short sprint that decides who will win the whole race, which we think is unfair. And if you think about it, you don't have to see the first 49 km since it's completely uninteresting.
