Name: Jo Goodbody on Dec 19, 2012Comments: I work with women who have experienced violence and abuse, and see lap dancing clubs as one of the ways that women are exploited, objectified and abused. Clubs such as this normalise the objectification of women and do not promote gender equality. I urge Lambeth Council to reject this application.Flag

Name: Karen Ingala Smith on Dec 19, 2012Comments: Research has shown that lap dancing clubs normalise men's sexual objectification of women and can lead to an increase in violence against women. We need to place women's safety and well being above profits and entertainment.Flag

Name: Anna Van Heeswijk on Dec 19, 2012Comments: Lap dancing clubs are part of the sex industry and they are often sites of commercial sexual exploitation. They promote the idea that men can pay for access to women's bodies, and they make sexual harassment seem normal. Many women and children feel unsafe walking past these clubs at night because of the harassment they experience. Lambeth has taken a strong stance against sexual harassment and against all forms of commercial sexual exploitation. Licensing this club would completely undermine these policies as well as council campaigns to tackle male violence against women and the attitudes associated with it.Flag

Name: Kathy Bell on Dec 19, 2012Comments: It does not give men the right education about females. It is perpetuating the attitude of seeing women as sexual objects. This needs to stop. Females are being terrible degraded and a role model being portrayed to the younger generations. Its wrong! We deserve equality and respect.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2012Comments: I worked as a lapdancer to pay for my MA, I know from experience what these clubs are like. I was persistently harassed at work and was once followed home by a punter hours after I finished my shift and had to contact the police. These clubs exist solely to line the pockets of those who run them and offer little or no protection to the women who work there. These clubs are exploitative of dancers and the punters. The atmosphere they create is not one that would be complimentary to any area, especially not beautiful Brixton/Oval. Our young women do not need any more incentive to see themselves as objects. Do the right thing Lambeth!Flag

Name: Laura Bassett on Dec 19, 2012Comments: I used to go to this place a few years ago. I thought it was a nice little bar cafe - then it turned seedy. The staff started to look at us oddly (a mixed gender small group of twenty-somethings) and a changing room screen popped up. We felt really uncomfortable and I couldn't look the staff in the eye every day when I walked past thinking about what was happening just a few doors from my house. There is no way this proposal should go ahead.Flag
