This generation of students has the idea that lunch at school is "free".  So much so that they have no problem throwing some or all of it away.  Yet these same students have the resources to bring unhealthy snacks to school to replace the tax payer funded healthy food they are offered.  The term "free" is thrown around like the food falls from the sky.  Some student are offering our tax payer lunches to others saying 'go ahead it's free,'  Until we change this mindset we will not create a community that understands the need for everyone to make contributions.  Until we are honest about where all of these "free" products and services are funded, there will be no motivation to make a change.  It is difficult as a educator and a parent to see and hear the how the "poor" are able to afford the best cell phones and cable packages along with the latest fashions.  I know this is not true for all, but it is becoming true for most. There is not "free" lunch.  My petition is to change that term to "tax-payer funded" lunch.  Yes it is wordy, but then we may get questions as to what is a "tax-payer" and how do I become one?
