We, as supporters of Berkeley’s ECEP program, hereby make a motion of no confidence in Associate Vice Chancellor LeNorman Strong and RSSP CFO Robert Flaharty as ECEP leaders.

Our concerns are twofold. First, their lack of transparency and communication surrounding the proposed management outsource to Bright Horizons Family Solutions, which reflected not only a lack of regard for the university’s principles of shared governance but also a disturbing lack of understanding of how early child education programs function, make us unable to imagine them being capable of leading this program moving forward.

Second, the increased center violations they cite as the justification for this drastic management change happened under their watch. It is unconscionable to us that they should be able to fire the five managers beneath them, but escape any culpability themselves for their inability to ensure the safety of the children enrolled in ECEP. We ask Chancellor Birgeneau that they be removed immediately from their positions of responsibility over this program.
