Dear Mayor & City Councillors -

Don't Gamble with Our City!

We say "NO CASINO IN SUDBURY!" and we want you to oppose expansion of casinos in our community. Casinos are bad social, economic & government policy.

The truth about casinos & gambling is that the community loses, and it is more than just the tens ofmillions (over and above the pittance that they give backingrants)that will forever leave our community each year; the odds are stacked against us so don't be deceived.A casino comes here to suck money out of our economy.

Casinosdo not provide facilities at "no cost to taxpayers". There is a cost, and it is wildly understated.Research confirms the resulting social impact will include:tens of millions of dollars annuallyleavingour local economy, increased crime and money laundering, increased health care costs, addictions, unemployment, welfare, family breakdown, damaged finances, anxiety, depression & evensuicide.

Take the time to learn the true costs by looking at theresearch.

"Our governments should not be preying upon its citizens to create more addicts by raising money from people who can't afford to gamble by promising them a dream that isn't going to come true" Warren Buffett

Faith leaders across the Greater Sudbury area have spoken out against casino expansion and are signing a joint statement in opposition.

A financial contribution is not required to sign this petition.

Casinos are a blight on the economy of every city they are present in. All that they do is promote addiction and increase the number of people living in poverty. If Sudbury city council wants to create quality jobs in the city, they've got a silly way of acting on it.

When adults wear a diapers to avoid getting up and losing their place at the slots, how can gambling be considered something positive.

As both a citizen and council candidate, I honestly believe that Sudbury needs a focus on real growth opportunities instead of cash grabs like a new casino, which is why I signed this petition.

A casino in downtown Sudbury is antithetical to the progress and vision of those leading the charge to make Sudbury more vibrant.

Gambling is over all not beneficial for Sudbury, or any society! -Proven to cause increases in suicide in communities -Cause the poor to become more poor -Gambling is proven to be an addiction that has a direct correlation with many crimes and relationship and family breakups.

What a waste of tax-payers $$$ already. Stop now, and don't make the biggest mistake. We don't want a Zulich arena out there. We don't want a casino. We don't want the KED. We want a safe, vibrant, redeveloped, re-invigorated downtown. Council you better listen to the people who say No Casino. That's the side that is in the right on this. Don't sell out the people, and the City for some backroom favors and dark deals with the developer. Don't favor the the Developer over the City's future.

A very bad decision favoring a developer's ties to decision makers, over the fiscal responsibility to City. What kind of City Council wastes the taxpayers money on a casino that will bankrupt local small businesses, and leave our downtown core hollowed out. Council you better smarten up. Fast. Shady deals, and backroom municipal politics. We don't want the KED, we want a vibrant downtown. Invest our money wisely! And listen to people's objections.
