Name: BARADEL Frédéric on Aug 4, 2010Comments (will be public): En hommage à la bravoure des soldats Nisei.Pour mémoire rappelons que c'est dans les Vosges,dans un contexte ségrégationniste et de doute sur leur loyauté,que les soldats Nisei se sont surpassés pour réaliser leur mission à terme.En octobre 1944,alors que le front se stabilisait suite à une carence logistique en carburant et en armement,que le 100e/442eRCT réalisa la périlleuse mission de perçer la ligne d'hiver matérialisée géographiquement par le massif des Vosges.Il libéra le passage statégique de Bruyères puis Biffontaine et poursuivit son offensive vers Saint-Dié.Cette suite d'actions permit à la 36e Division US de traverser les Vosges d'Ouest en Est et de contraindre l'ennemi à une retraite précipitée.Le Comité Historique Militaire de l'Armée des Etats-Unis d'Amérique déclara ultérieurement que la relève du Bataillon Perdu de Biffontaine fut l'un des dix accomplissements les plus exceptionnels de toute l'histoire militaire de ce pays.N'oublions pas les pertes subies dans les Vosges par ce régiment:172 tués,856 blessés au combat,26 blessés sur l'arrière,43 disparus.La création d'un timbre leurs rendant hommage est vraiment la moindre des choses et cela aurait dus étre fait depuis bien longtemps.Les Vosges et les Vosgiens n'oublient pas ceux qui ont versés leurs sang pour sa libération et mettre fin à la tyrannie des nazis.Merci à euxFlag

Those events were heartfelt and well deserved, albeit years late in coming. Many of the recipients had already passed on.
