It is a small but prominent American tribute to the "Nisei" generation for what they did to help their families, the Japanese American community, and the Nation. These veterans often say "we fought to prove our loyalty to America," and "we hoped our service would help our family and friends in the Japanese American community back at home." Of the over 110,000 Japanese Americans incarcerated in "internment camps," two-thirds were American citizens who at the stroke of the President's pen, and at the tip of a bayonet, had their Constitutional rights taken away. May no other group of Americans have to suffer what Former President Ronald Reagan and Congress called, "a grave injustice... motivated largely by racial prejudice, wartime hysteria, and a failure of political leadership" (Civil Liberties Act of 1988). The actions of the Nisei during the war deeply affect the Nation even today. Their outstanding record has been important in a post-war America that would embrace diversity more and more, especially for the greater Asian Pacific American communities. Their service was brought up after the September 11th, 2001 attacks, when President George W. Bush used the patriotic record of the Japanese Americans in WWII to caution the Nation against any misguided outrage against Arab and Muslim Americans. Let the Nation celebrate these American veterans soon through the swift passage of this U.S. commemorative postage stamp.Flag

It is true that extraordinary times require extraordinary measures, but our focus should be on how we can preserve civil liberty while doing what has to be done. Otherwisw we alienate those who would support us and create enemies from those who would have been our friends. This stamp acknowledges a grievous mistake and honors brave men and women.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Oct 7, 2007Comments (will be public): The Nisei veterrans of WWII have shown the commitment of those Japanese-Americans were committed to serving the military to show their loyalty to the United States. Their commitment was nutured by their issei parents to have a better life than what they endured as immigrants to the United States. Their record in the military has proven their abilities as military personnel to do their best even under the most difficult situations. They deserve to be recognized by a postage stamp for their accomplishments.Flag

The numbers of these vets are really dwindling and I urge you to put into action a postage stamp in their honor as they too swiftly went into action when our nation needed them! Thank you.Flag

Tanaka on Oct 7, 2007Comments (will be public): I am impassioned with this cause as a tribute to my deceased father, a Nisei doctor who was placed at the front in all of the major European campaigns to set up the U.S. Hospitals. Only after he passed away did I learn that he was awarded 5 bronze stars for his accomplishments. Name: Janet Hardwick Brown on Oct 7, 2007Comments (will be public): These brave men saved my father's life in the Vosges Mountains in 1944 (Dad was part of the Lost Battalion) I can honestly think of no other group of individuals who deserve this honor more than these men --- they risked" it all" and at great personal sacrifice (800casualties) , they saved the lives of 211 men ----- men for whom two other attempts at rescue had failed. THIS STAMP WAS DEVISED TO ACKNOWLEDGE AMERICANS JUST LIKE THE MEN OF THE 442nd ---PLEASE HONOR THEM TODAY !!!!!!!!!!!
