Dear Management, With the recent publication of the 2009 calendar, we proud National Grid employees would like to inform you that we are disappointed and offended with the decision to remove Veteran's Day from the holidays observed by U.S. employees. We cannot even begin to comprehend the reasons and thought process that went into making this decision, because, to us, this decision is completely absurd! Veteran's Day was established in 1919 as a national day of remembrance, to show respect and say a giant "Thank you!" to our brave men and women who have fought and defended not only our freedoms here in the United States, but also for the freedoms of all people in all countries - including the U.K. They do what most of us would never have the fortitude to do, risking their lives for complete strangers, and fighting for what is right no matter the public opinion. Many of us take this as a personal slap in the face because we have family members, friends, and coworkers who have served, currently serve, or have given the ultimate sacrifice while serving proudly in one of the United States Armed Forces. We would like this decision to be reconsidered and ultimately overturned, adding Veteran's Day back to the calendar of observed holidays at National Grid, and we would like this to happen promptly! Thank you for your consideration, The Undersigned
