There is always controversy, and rightfully so, with the overtime rules in the NFL. There have been many many ideas tossed out there, some good, some bad, on how to fix it... Heres the BEST MOST FAIR PLACE TO START, PERIOD: :::DO NOT have a coin toss in overtime.... the team that gets the ball should be the team that has the better OVERALL stats during regulation.... PERIOD...:::: Now how do you decide which team has the best "overall stats"? Simple.. you create a formula, just like with the QB rating... Every total yard gained (wether running, passing, or special teams) for example, could equal one point... Every turn over lost could equal negative 50 points (just examples, not saying these should be the exact numbers, ppl who get paid in the competition committee can come up with the forumla over some months of thinking)... Every touchdown made could equal 70 points to the rating... Every feild goal 20 or 30 points to the rating... etc etc etc... BOTTEM LINE, team who has the highest point formula at the end of regulation should get the ball at the start of overtime, not by a LUCKY COIN TOSS... where is the competition and fairness in that? this is perfect, this is fair, and it cant be argued... This would be a big step, if not the only step needed, in fixing the Overtime problem... if you want to also say, ALONG WITH THIS, the first team to 6 points wins (2 fgs or a td), that would also be extremely fair.. but the rule i stated with the formula ala the qb rating would keep anyone from complaining... SIGN THIS PETITION!!!! THE NFL MUST SEE THIS!!!
