In 2010, the governing body of Wyandotte County and the owners of Sporting KC in affiliation with Cerner Corp, entered into an agreement to construct the Livestrong Soccer Stadium at the Legends at Village West. In that agreement it called for Cerner Corp to build an office complex within the area and for 18-24 youth tournament format soccer fields to be constructed at the near-by Wyandotte County Park. The estimated total for the construction of the youth soccer complex would be around 32 million. Upon reviewing the agreement, Journey Sports contacted one of the principal owners of Sporting KC and asked that he along with his business associates consider restructuring their previous agreement to where it allowed for the construction of a Multi-Sports facility that offers several sports for youth and adults along with housing a state of the art fitness center. After submitting a detailed proposal at the request of the owner, we received a letter of interest in regard to what we were asking. Our proposal focuses on inclusiveness for all. We asked that they consider building a smaller soccer complex that is still tournament attractive and utilized the remaining funds for building the sports facility. We strongly feel that this facility will better serve the community as it cater to residents of all ages and gender. The facility is designed to promote health, ducation, family and community. The facility will also serve as a safe haven for young people to visit year round and filled that void of an absent parent, lack of activities, etc. It also will attract large scale national sporting tournaments of different sports and have the capabilities of serving as a convention center. With the facility being located immediately within the Legends Shopping District it will have a positive economic impact. Keep in mind there is no facility of this kind in the Midwest region which eliminates competition. Currently there is no state of the art fitness center located in Wyandotte County. This facility coupled with the youth soccer fields will be unique and the leader in sports districts. This facility will showcase the Kansas City area as a destination location for teams throughout the country. Our Heart of America location makes it convenient for traveling teams and families. The easy access to the Legends shopping, dining and near-by hotels make it a win-win situation for everyone. Note: This facility does not call for tax payer support, it calls for the county and investors to restructure the current deal and divide the funding so there can be a sporting district thats all inclusive.
