Comments: This is a totally unacceptalbe the way things are being handled by animal control and the police department. We would like this investigated to be procused further to prevent any future horrific abuse and neglect of animals in our counties.

Comments: I want to take the time to thank all those involved. Though I live out of state, my heart aches for these animals and all the people who have lost loved ones through this ordeal, as though they were in my own "back yard." I hope that this collection of signatures can bring some justice. I hope departments can come together in preventing further abuses. I hope that it will help strengthen a community to work together and help others in need so that we may share the joy that these animals bring us, and deminish the anger and destruction that neglect creates. May, in this case, these horses have not suffered in vain, but that we may go forth, to have the ability to save the next creature that looks to us for food, shelter and good health. God Bless each and every one of you. Sincerely, Margaret Metz

Comments: this is outrageous; this situation has gone on for as long as it had and animals suffered and died because nothing was done to stop this.

Comments: Anne used to be my preacher's wife and board her personal horses with me. She fooled me for a short time but you catch on fast to her manipulative ways. She is an excellent liar and I can see how so many people believed her stories for such a long time. I just hope that she finally gets what she deserves.

Comments: I personally know that a written complaint of animal cruelty/neglect against Annie Stein was submitted to Catawba County Animal Control on their official form during the fall of '09. Obviously, nothing was done. I believe that Catawba County officials and Newton officials are, too, guilty of gross negelect and dereliction of their sworn duty to the public they are paid to serve. They, too should be held accountable for this tragedy. And to think that all of this took place under their very noses--behind the so-called JUSTICE CENTER and within WALKING DISTANCE of the seats of both county and city government!!!

Comments: Animal Control and the Police Department needs to do their job!!!!!!! If these concerns would have been addressed in the very beginning, it would not have progressed to this! I am outraged at their total incompetence in this matter! Anne Stines also needs to serve jail time for these heinous acts! If she gets away with these crime, they should be held directly responsible and their jobs should be on the line. Steins should not be allowed to get away with these crimes against these helpless animals! Animals are not disposable objects!!

Comments: I myself took pictures of a very emaciated Beau (Bo) and my friend sent these pictures in. I have seen many horses under the care of Anne Stein that literally wasted away to nothing. Lucky was not the only horse left dead from starvation to rot out in the pasture; she had several others. She didn't even have the deceny and compassion to bury two of her very best lesson horses. I offered to buy both Lucky and Misty from her in the Spring of 2009 for $750 a piece and she would not sell them to me. Unfortunately, both horses died. What a waste. I believe that Ms. Stein is a sociopath, a danger to society and should never be allowed to own any other animal again.

Comments: I use to have horses with Anne Stein she starved on so bad it could not move eat or drink. She left one of horses in a stall all the time so it had issues moving when it was finally moved from the property. I used to spend every weekend with Annie and her family. I use to think she was a nice lady but i don't any more i will never trust her with my horses again.

Comments: I also feel that the length of time these horses had been starved as evidenced by the tremendous loss of weight and the fact the suspect was reported multiple documented times leads me to believe she "maliciously" starved this animals to death and needs to be charged as such.

Comments: This is a tragic thing that happened. We as a community need to do something so this doesn't ever happen again. We need to get someone with experience with horses and other animals that would be able to safely and effectively determine the health and welfare of an animal and make the decision to monitor them or remove the animals. This is a serious thing that needs to be addressed.

Comments: I hope I am just not understanding the above statements, but you have been monitoring this women for 2 years and the horses still died and you can't prove MALICIOUS INTENT! Who are these people? Everyone involved should be held responsible. This is why people do these things, a slap on the wrist and they do it again. These people are criminals, treat them like they're criminals.
