Comments: I think these are an eyesore, clean or othrwise. The one in front of the Brittany dorm on lovely residential 10th street is purple, and the base is sticky with dog pee. A resident in my building on that block asked NYU if they could just move it to the corner on broadway where there are other such boxes and they turned him down flat. mt

Comments: The sidewalks in my neighbourhood (east 50s, east of 3rd Avenue) are seriously narrowed owing to overcrowding by newsracks, new newsstands, and food delivery bikes poking across the sidewalks. It doesn't take much to notice that this creates hazards for pedestrians, to the point of our often stepping into the gutter to get past slow-walking people and other obstacles. Safety first? Let's try it!!!

Comments: A hazard and real danger, germ wise. These boxes are pet-walkers' new fire hydrants and nothing else. Yuk. Not our neighborhoods idea of a human voice issue.

Comments: The newsracks are most often broken and serve more as pedestrian obstacles, urine targets for dogs and humans alike, canvases for graffitti artists, and trash receptacles. As such, they serve little benefit to their surroundings.

Comments: I approve of the newsracks on Madison Ave in the 80's - they are well designed, clean and a service to the neighborhood and the notion of free speech. What we are against is unkempt, garbage strewn eyesores.

Comments: I have sent letter to Mr. Vacca regarding newsracks and been involved in newsbox regulation testimonials since 1997. Time to regain civility on our sidewalks. Too much competition by wheels (carriages and walkers and wheelchairs) to afford empty/abandoned boxes space.

Comments: In nearly every location that there are unused, defaced, neglected news-rack (that have basically become waste receptacles); there should be an actual trash receptacle instead of these eyesores. They burden pedestrian access to safe crossings at many intersections. This space that they take up could be better used as areas for bike parking , trash cans or just clear sidewalk space.
