Name: Rita And John Hirsch on Dec 6, 2010Comments: We are strong supporters of newspapers and the First Amendment. This is not a First Amendment issue: this is an issue of publishers taking responsibility for the way they distribute materials on our city streets.Flag

Name: Susan Gottridge on Dec 9, 2010Comments: The news racks are a blight on neighborhoods. It is one of the many things that block sidewalk space. Telephone also are unnecessary and take up public space. Give the sidewalks and the visual access back to the people! Not to a few who want to make money without compensating the City.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 10, 2010Comments: Get rid of them altogether . . . they are unsightly, a menace to the disabled (have you ever seen a blind person try to navigate around them). In addition, together with the vendors who have taken over the streets, there is no room left to walk. There are plenty of newstands available that sell newspapers, internet access, home delivery . . .and the US Postal service. Please get rid of them . . .as the owners have demonstrated that they are not capable of maintaining them. Thank you. George N. StonbelyFlag

Name: Sarah Gallagher on Mar 28, 2011Comments: Have we not reached the tipping point in non-regulation when entities which have established thousands of newsracks across our city are not required to maintain them? And how was it and why were those entities - with a well-established, miserable maitenance track-record by 2004 -in that year totally absolved of any responsibility to maintain them? A hearing on this quality-of-life issue is long overdue. Most sincerely, Sarah Woodside GallagherFlag

Name: Romanie Baines. on Mar 28, 2011Comments: There are way too many of these newsracks on Manhattan streets. Frequently poorly maintained, often moved around for the convenience of the people making the deliveries to the racks. They often parially block pedestrian access to corner crosswalks. They give New York the appearance of a third world city.Flag
