| 601 | Daniel Baker | As a navy vet of this current war in Iraq and conscientious objector, i am deeply dissapointed in Newport. |

| 603 | Marion (Pete) Davis | As A veteran I am deeply hurt and disappointed in the city of Newport and the parade committee for banning the Vewterans for Peace parade entry. When does it become non community minded or unpatriotic to strive for peace. Isn't that what we all want in this world? Shame on the town of Newport, Oregon. |
| 604 | Pete Davis | As a US Navy veteran I am saddened and offended that this breach of free speech has happened in New Port, OR. I will not go to New Port for any business or pleasure purposes. |
| 605 | Cathleen Shea | I add my name to this boycott of Newport, Oregon. As a proud disabled veteran of the United States Air Force I will not spend my time or money in a city that misrepresents what I fought to maintain - freedom. I spend over $200 per month on supplies and entertainment in Newport. In the five years time I've lived on the coast that equates to over $10,000. Instead, I'll spend my money in Lincoln City and cities to the north.
I believed the parade conflict was due to an overzealous parade coordinator. After I read a well-written opinion piece in the 13 Jun 07 Newport News-Times, I see the problem starts at the top. The sitting mayor of Newport stated "not on my watch" in response to a bystander's question about why the Veterans For Peace were being so aggressively dismissed from the parade. The sitting mayor... of all people!
"Not On My Watch???" I'm sickened at the use of such a "patriotic" phrase to demonstrate one man's apparent hatred for other people's right to congregate and voice opinions.
I believe it's time, at the very least, to recall the Newport, Oregon mayor, if not the entire city council that apparently support such an absurd concept as a publicly funded Loyalty Days event run by a clearly hypocritical, private minority. |
| 606 | Ed Hargadine | If we'd just buy Iraq's oil without trying to tell them how to live, war would be pretty unnecessary, wouldn't it? |
| 607 | Doug Parr | I often spend a few annual months at the family's home at Salishan. Most recently I was in the Nye Beach area to enjoy a wonderful dinner at the Sylvia Beach Hotel along with the rest of our Mensa Oregon group. Beside the annual Depoe Bay First December gathering, we get together at the Depoe Bay Worldmark for extended weekend retreats and statewide socials.
I was very (!) surprised to see such a closed political attitude at a beach community event. I shall recommend to my family, friends, and organizations that we avoid unecessary spending at Newport merchants until your position is publically clarified as being more accepting of diversity.

| 609 | Kellie La Bonty | Yet another example of how our country and Democracy are being taken from us. Shame on you City of Newport! |
| 610 | Glen Anderson | I am a retired American, and I like to visit Oregon, but I will NOT visit or spend any money in Newport because you have DENIED FREEDOM OF SPEECH to the Veterans for Peace who wanted to participate in your parade. |

| 612 | VL-Oklahoma | That was really bad what they did and totally unfair especially to our vets. They have enough problems. No way will I ever help this town. |
| 613 | Laura M. Ohanian | Hello??? |
| 614 | Colleen Angell | This Veteran For Peace gladly joins in with this boycott. |
| 615 | Rita Kiley | Please let us know that this is STILL a free country, and allow a variety of groups. How can we be loyal (Loyalty Days) to such oppressive policies? |
| 616 | Michael R. Irwin | I have some mixed feelings about the war and the criminal activity by members of the government branches by personal action and by omission, failure to execute their sworn responsibilities as duly elected by the public; against the constitution. In essence I feel that we have finally acknowledged practices we have long used. I find it incredibly amazing how fast local governments flaunt constitutional guaranteed rights and priveleges once criminal corruption has achieved the pinnacle of power. I think, we absorbed more damage from the NAZIs in World War II than most suspect. Perhaps if Dr. Robert Goddard had been consulted and funded to build the Apollo Moon Rockets, rather than Wernher Von Brawn, war criminals would not be so celebrated in our time and place today in Oregon. |
| 617 | anne hill | thankyou for efforts to speak truth. |

| 619 | IRENE SCHMIDT | I was shocked and disappointed to see this as we thought Newport was a progressive community and is high on our list for retirement locations. I guess we'll have to think about vacationing elsewhere this year. |
