| 551 | Gabriel LaValle | I hope that you would reconsider your banning of the Veteran's for Peace from your parade. I wonder if you have ever met or spoken to anyone from this organization. Because I have, and they are some of the nicest, most genuine people I have ever encountered. |
| 552 | Cat Christensen | |
| 553 | ROBERT RIDDLE | Peace is patriotic!
Protest is patriotic!
Veterans for Peace is made up of patriots
who have walked the walk.
Please allow them the respect
of self expression. They stand for many of us. |
| 554 | Anonymous | Newport said it didn't want the parade to be "political" but yet had politicians there.
Screw Newport. Bunch of Bush Supporting War Pigs obviously. |
| 555 | Michael Howell | Great, I let the Newport Chamber of Commerce know, too.
They can be reached http://www.newportchamber.org/ |
| 556 | Carl Christy | Newport, how could you discriminate like this? Shame on you! I'm going to boycott your whole city!
-Carl |
| 557 | Tom and Jan Merrick | My son is currently in the Army, recently returned from Iraq and will again deploy this summer. I cannot understand the extent of your distrust and resistance towards those who would peacabely resist the current awful war in Iraq. You should be ashamed of yourselves! |
| 558 | James Harsh | As a frequent visitor to your beautiful city I will know have to enjoy other vacation spots until you get your act together. Please remember that the United States of America is a democracy. That is what we fight for; that is what we are loyal to. We are not servants of a particular administration or political point of view. We must entertain dissent as well. |
| 559 | Mark Kelm | |
| 560 | Gene Hornof | |
| 561 | Rose Marschall | This is blatant illegal freedom of speech degrading actions. I will not go to Newport this summer for sure!!! |
| 562 | rebecca michelson | sad very sad |
| 563 | Carol Huhs | Freedom means freedom for all! |
| 564 | jeff Kipilman | i will not support newport by stopping by there on my beach trips this summer. |
| 565 | Nieba Paige | I consider my boycott to be operative until Newport demonstrates with more than words that it walks a different walk, down a different path than the one leading to the suppression of democracy. |
| 566 | KMK | you may be correct in that they were not properly registered, by Ms. Louisiana's comments tell a compelling tale about your choices. Shame on her and you for employing her. |
| 567 | Ken Deveney | |
| 568 | Kimberly Goddard | |
| 569 | D.Stuart MacRobbie ,M.D. | I am outraged that a representatiive of the Newport government banned parade participation of a veterans group opposing this illegal and very damaging war. As an army doctor who volunteered in two wars for active duty, I condemn your stance and wish to join in any legal action against those responsible for this decision |
| 570 | June Clapp | We must allow freedom of opinion. |
| 571 | Christopher Cerutti | |
| 572 | Erin Mayrand | My family and I will not be visiting Newport OR until they recognize their grave mistake and make it right. All Americans have the right to freedom of speech and their own opinion. |
| 573 | Ali Gray | My husband is a Vietnam Vet and we usually visit the Oregon coast and Newport at least once or twice during the summer. We will not spend one cent in Newport until the organizers of the "Loyalty Days" (how ironic!) celebration apologize to these vets. There is no democracy without dissent. |
| 574 | Francine Storzbach | We were hoping to escape to the Oregon Coast this summer, and Newport has always been one of my favorite places. Too bad for Newport. I hope Depoe Bay wasn't part of this, because that's where we'll spend our money instead. Portland, OR |
| 575 | Stella Byrne | |
| 576 | Robin Sherwin | I thought we were fighting for peace? |
| 577 | Laurence M. Binder | |
| 578 | J. Dalton | Wjhatever happened to the idea of being inclusive? |
| 579 | Anonymous | |
| 580 | Kim Luft | |
| 581 | K Neujahr | I had the pleasure of visiting Newport several years ago, and I had hoped to visit again this summer with my family. Needless to say, our plans have changed. "Dissent" does not equal "Disloyalty", as our founding fathers would surely tell you. |
| 582 | Anonymous | I support peace, and I still can't believe that the Newport community would deny promoters of peace. Does this mean the Newport community supports war? For shame! |
| 583 | Bob Watada | There are people in Newport--like George W. Bush, they can't read, and have never heard of the US Constitution. Poor things. |
| 584 | Michael Fields | My vacation dollars are going elswhere |
| 585 | Mike McCann | We are from Eugene and won't spend a cent in Newport until this is fixed. The Chamber says they are not to blame, but they have the power and will feel the pain. |
| 586 | Paul Motta | My wife and I will bypass Newport, Oregon during our travels around the state. We are Oregon residents and are disgusted about the stupid, backward, redneck attitude of Newport city officials and law enforcement.
Newport has become another pocket of fascism in our great state. Patty Louisiana, by all indications, is a spittin' image of a Nazi back in the days of Hitler. She should either take her brown shirt off or resign. |
| 587 | Dawn Coslow | My family and I spent a "time share" week at a beautiful condo in Newport a couple of summers ago. We'd thought that it may be time for us to revisit. [Not now/ no longer, no way.] I am alarmed at the blatant anti-American choices made by community 'leaders' in Newport, to censor/exclude the voice of the informed citizenry, from their annual "LOYALTY" parade, and I am curious as to whether ANY of Newport's residents/ local merchants did successfully march in opposition to the current US/ISRAELI ILLEGAL OCCUPATION(s).
~ If not, then the annual event ought to be dubbed the "BLIND Loyalty" parade, from here forward.
Better yet, KEEP THE CURRENT MONIKER, but those residents acting to stifle dissent or support the continued propagandizing/ignorance of fellow community members, in ANY way, should take swift action to rename their city.
"OCEANIA", comes to mind, as most apropos. Patty Newspeak and her fellow footsoldiers/ lobbyists are already transparently functioning as the city's Winston Smiths.
NEWPORT RESIDENTS MUST SPEAK OUT!
Inform yourselves/ SILENCE IS COMPLICITY!
TRUTH is watching, but getting impatient. |
| 588 | Beryl Oliver | |
| 589 | Bill Evans | From what i have heard in news reports and other contacts, i intend to avoid Newport until i hear of some resolution of an apparent misunderstading of the meaning of free speech. |
| 590 | Christopher Guilfoil | |
| 591 | Paul Rey | |
| 592 | Leslie Hunter | I like Newport and have always thought of it as a progressive city. I'm sad to have to take it off my list of places to visit until the powers that be see the light and apologize to our veterans and their supporters - which should be every single one of us. |
| 593 | Kim Wilson | When "Peace" becomes unpatriotic then it is time to change the name of our country...maybe the United States of War-like Peoples. |
| 594 | Rev. Will I. Am Winget | I'm outraged that such a basic tenent as the right to
dissent is not seen as a foundational block of our
society. We think of ourselves as an example for
how we'd like the rest of the world to act. Seems to
me we have nothing to offer at this time from
Newport. You, who made this decision have a
right to do so, but why would you want to? Veterans
put their life on the line. It is our responsibility as
well as our right to bring to peoples attention when
our Gov't is wrong. Our Gov't is wrong and the
reason we haven't been able to make it right is
because of the kind of thinking we've encountered
here. |
| 595 | Skyeanna Malito | Not until our voice is heard and respected! |
| 596 | Matthew McLain | Me and my family of four are members of the Newport Aquarium, so we visit at least once per month. We eat an average of five meals in the local resteraunts, and usually stay for two evenings in an oceanfront room at a nice hotel at the beach when we visit. After hearing how the 'Hammer & Sickle' of facism has once again reared its ugly head, in Newport, Oregon of all places, in the form of Patty Louisiana (if that is her real name and not just her old nude-dancing stage name), and the merchants that support and continue to support this 'un-loyal act' of suppression of free speech (by a loyal American group) in their so-called "Loyalty Days" festivities, we as a family have decided to take our business elsewhere on the coast.
Patty Louisiana and the merchants who have allowed this unjustice to even occur, have done the city of Newport, OR an ENORMOUS dis-service. One that I am sure will most definately hurt the city in a place it will hurt the most...the almighty tourist dollar. I for one will be sure to let all of my friends, in fact I will make a point of it, to avoid Newport at all costs and to not have anyone they know spend any time or money there.
Patty Louisiana sure does not sound loyal at all to me, especially to her own community. |
| 597 | Bob Krzewinski | |
| 598 | Bill Harasym | " To stand in silence when they should be protesting makes cowards out of men."
-Martin Luther King-
As a veteran, I am disheartened by the behavior, and political censorship of the parade organizer and the fat cop. Shame on you all!!! |
| 599 | Margery | I'm so disappointed to hear this happened in Oregon. This woman, whomever she represents, should have the Constitution explained to her. Veterans have fought and died for our country and deserve to have an opinion about the viability of a war. |
| 600 | Nicholas Eltgroth | Free Speech means freedom to oppose the militarization of our youth, community and country. We need to stop occupying Iraq and bring our troops home. Please honor our veterans who have served honorably when they oppose the illegal war in Iraq. |
