How many times have you been to Tesco in Newmarket to fill up your car and found that between you putting the nozzle back on the pump and going in to the kiosk/going to print a Pay at Pump receipt (when in stock!) you have been charged AT LEAST an extra penny! Some other garages - for example Esso in Mildenhall - have a little box on the counter full of pennies and a sign that reads, 'Don't worry about the extra penny', because we all admittedly do accidentally go over to an extra penny at times. We've all done it and it can't be helped. However, when you finish fuelling at the amount you wanted to put in and you find you've been charged extra it really takes the biscuit! Just imagine how many transactions they have at the fuelling pumps each day. Now imagine how many get cheated out of a penny every day. If 200 people have to an extra 1p per day then Tesco get a £2 per day, which will then amount to a COMPLETELY FREE grand total of £730 they con out of us each year - which is absolutely appalling! This has happened to me so many times and I have had enough! In fact, a fortnight ago I was at the pumps and the extra 1p was added to my bill completely unbeknownst to me. When I got to the counter to pay for my fuel and was informed of the extra penny I refused to pay it! And the checkout girl had no quarms at all with me not paying! This, to me, says she knows there is a fault with these pumps and maybe others have complained/refused to pay too! I personally believe the pumps are faulty, however Tesco just point-blank refuse to acknowledge any problem whatsoever! I then complained to Tesco HQ who, two weeks later, have finally finished their investigation and informed me that the manager of Newmarket Tesco (not an engineer or anyone with a toolbox!) tried all the pumps and stated there was no issue. This, however, is wrong! I know I'm not the only one this has happened to! We need to stop this ridiculous practice happening! They need to see there IS a problem with their pumps! We need to show them that this has affected much more than a handful of honest paying customers... it has affected the majority of the town and all who use it! Please sign my petition and get them to stop ripping us off!!!
