| 153 | Naomi Senzer | The proposed tax increases will definitely be a disincentive to owning property in New Haven, and will thus adversely affect what is otherwise a wonderful city to call home. Unfortunately, it will make it unaffordable to the many teachers, artists, and public servants who make New Haven such a vibrant place to live and work. |
| 154 | Ann Donnery | we can't afford to live in New Haven anymore! |
| 155 | June Sachs | |
| 156 | Lee Faulkner | The current proposed tax increases will result in five *annual* increases of over $100 per month for a small house on a small property!
By the end of the cycle the taxes will exceed my morgage!
My income increases will not keep pace with this, simple .... and neither that of many other New Haven residents.
The result will be that middle income families will have to leave New Haven... others will reduce maintainance on properties, values will fall .... all of which will add to New Haven's poor financial state.
The real answer is that the Tax system is flawed! The tax base for a city which provides a cultral and service hub for surrounding areas should be larger!
If the Tax income and burden was shared by surrounding areas inluding all of New Haven County and further ... we'd all be better off!
The perhaps New Haven wouldn't be rated as the nation's 25th poorest city.
Centers in other states have done this .... it's the only way forward. |

| 167 | Stephen august | My assessment at 16 Lincoln street, was increased over 88%. Way to much and, coupled with the new budget, a travesty. |
| 168 | Mildred Hollis Lerner | I am terribly distressed at all of these increases and hope that now that I am retired I can afford to live in New Hav en. |

| 175 | Amanda Solem | Rent is already ridiculous in the area. Increasing the mil rate will certainly make it even worse. |

Having just purchased our home in New Haven, my wife and I were very disenchanted with the raising of the mil rate. We understand that government costs money but putting this burden on the homeowners is not going to bring out a positive change in the city. Those that you would want to stay and those whom you would like to see invest in the city will see the rates and choose to go and invest elsewhere. Smaller government is always better; let's try to keep this in mind. I'm sure there is a way to trim the budget. Entitlements are always good place to start as they tend to bring "investors" of a different type into the city... |
| 178 | Tina Rivera | New Haven is going to be a ghost town if this keeps up. |
| 179 | arlene ferrucci | I am a single person who lost her job 4 years ago before reaching 62. I am struggling with trying to keep my house and keeping up with the tax rate. I have no idea how I would pay for the upcoming tax increase as I am on a limited budget that can just about pay for the present mil rate.
I implore Mayor DeStafano to please have some consideration for us seniors and freeze our taxes or allow us to have a good tax rebate. |
| 180 | Judith Birke | this change is going to send valued community members out of the city! we can't afford it. Infact, if a reappraisal of values was currently done, or during the latter part of 2006, the values would be lower. Real estate prices have dropped in my condo at 484 Whitney Avenue. |

Dear Aldermen & Alderwomen,
I bought a "fixer-upper" foreclosure property which I am slowly fixing up. It is being valued like a three-family in good condition, but in reality only one floor is really fixed up (and is now for rent); the other two floors are still in need of massive work (one floor has no functioning kitchen or bathroom), the porch has significant rot and may have to be replaced, the roof leaks on the second floor every time it rains, and it desperately needs new paint and gutters. This is not yet an income-producing property or worth anything like my assessment. I moved to this neighborhood when half the houses on the block were boarded-up wrecks and am doing my renovation without a penny from the city or any group. All I want is to stay and be a homeowner in New Haven. But with an assessment of $167,000 on a house worth MAYBE $90,000 which needs about $75,000 worth of work I don't know how I can manage. My taxes are already almost $4000 a year; if they double to $8000 I will be unable to pay and will be forced to sell to one of the absentee speculator types who failed to maintain their properties and destroyed this neighborhood in the first place. Please help people who are committed to New Haven and to homeownership. Thank you. |

| 183 | Mark Ciarlo | I moved from the suburbs to have a more vital life in this city with so much promise; I may not be able to afford to remain here... |
| 184 | Bonnie Rosenberg | As a resident of 2 years, I love my new community but may not be able to live here for much longer with all the increases. It would be ashame to see New Haven revert to it's former self after a mass exodus! |
| 185 | Vyto Kronkaitis | The property tax increases are ridiculous, instead of property taxes being increased I think income taxes should be increased some. |
| 186 | Mark Gravino | We have an elderly person that resides here on a fixed income from Social Security. She is responsible for some expenses at this property.
The residence is located at: 218 Elaine Ter. New Haven, CT 06512 |
| 187 | Theresa Rodriguez | If the mill rate is not significantly reduced, the impact will defintely pose a severe economic threat to all of us who live in New Haven.

It gets more and more expensive and difficult to live even close to comfortably in New Haven. This is a start to helping out the people who REALLY need it. |
| 194 | Gary Doyens | The mayor's budget is a disgrace and it's a slap in the face of every hard working taxpayer who lives here. At a time when gasoline is rising, utility bills are doubling, insurance rates are rising..this mayor has the audacity to propose new programs, new hires, new schools and endless increases in city borrowing and spending knowing he can just slap it on the taxpayers. It's beyond time to cut city spending, cut the borrowing and to get this city on firm financial footing. The people who live her are drowning in taxes and the city has nothing to show for it.

| 197 | Elizabeth Doyle | What is the plan for all the properties that may ultimately be abandoned? The taxes are unaffordable ($10,000+ a year???) and will also make our properties that much more difficult to sell. Thanks a lot.. |
