    Comments: If the mill-rate is not changed after the 200% increase assessment of my house, I simply will have to sell the place and go back to renting, that is if landlords do not simply increase rent by 200% overnight.

    Comments: The real estate market continues to drop. The re-evaluations were made at the top of the market. It is wiser to encourage homeowners to spend money and effort to maintain the quality of our housing stock than to raise taxes to confiscatory levels. A policy of high real estate taxes chases owners out of New Haven. This leaves empty buldings and causes a downward spiral in New Haven quality of life. Use the mill rate to encourage people to buy and stay in our city!

    Comments: We own a mulit family home on West Rock Avenue. WIth the increase in the property values, we may be forced to sell the home as it will become prohibitively expensive for us to maintain. We love our community and want to continue to be a part of it, however have grave concerns about our ability to do with the new assessments.

    Comments: Everyone in the city's administrtive organization must surely know that is obvious to all home owners, namely, that, as matter have turned out, the new evaluations were executed at a moment when the housing market in New Haven had peaked. Since that time, the market has deflated at least 10 per cent, and much more in some neighborhoods. This factor along would argue that the present mil rate should be reduced, as a means of doing more equity to the citizenry. In addition, as we have calculated the increase we would have to pay under the new assessment, it means that, as a family living on fixed income, we are going to have to consider moving out of the city. Finally, it appears to us obvious that the city does not really require the level of addtional income that the new tax rates will produce. Thank you for your kind attention.     Comments: I currently rent a home in New Haven but I am looking to purchase my own place soon. Given the outrageous property taxes incurred on my vehicles and the disproportionate property tax rate when compared to surrounding towns I will probably not purchase my home in New Haven.

    Comments: The real estate bubble that New Haven property reassessment was based on is imploding. The values assessed are imaginary, "funny money." Using these assessments to determine tax rates, without a significant decrease in the mil rate as conterbalance, would be a punitive action against homeowners.

    Comments: As a New Haven Resident all my life and a homeowner for over 35 years - I am so disgrunted as to the handling of property taxes. You keep them steady for years - but what good is that if you want to up them such large amounts all at one time. Many homeowners, especially the young and old will have such a hardship with these large, large assessments, please lower the mill rate to a reasonable number. We know we have to pay taxes and INCREASES - but our jobs don't give us increases this large - how would you expect middle class people to AFFORD TO STAY IN NEW HAVEN!

    Comments: I have lived all my life in New Haven on Douglass Avenue and 7 years ago I bought a house on 150 Stuyvesant Avenue in Morris Cove area of New Haven. I love being in the neighborhood I grew up in - so that my son can enjoy it as well - but a small mill rate decrease may force me to put a sign in front of my home. Please think of the young and old alike who can not even afford what they are paying now - let alone a huge tax hike!!!! Please think of everyone when deciding this new mill rate!

The real estate market is in a tumble and with high tax's why would someone want to live in New Haven anymore

    Comments: I believe that you are responsible for keeping the quality of life in New Haven high, for all people. I am a mom who stays home with her children and wants to continue doing so. I want my community to be one that supports that. I want my community to work hard to make this a city that draws in young families, not scares them away. I want the lawmakers in this community to see the big picture, that strong families make strong communities. Financial strain kills families. Let's be the community that fights against that.
