Minister Sue Stultz, as Social Development Minister, please put yourself in the shoes of those living in the New Brunswick subsedized homes. The news spread that your ministry is intending to deprive them from their sometimes unique source of joy, the companionship of a pet. Please take a minute to realize how inhumane and inconsiderate it is to apply a no-pet policy to such housing, as to any housing as a matter of fact. Please realize that people must never have the choice to discard their pet in order to have a decent roof over their head, or move. Seniors are often lonely creatures as many friends and family have passed away. For some, children barely visit. They find a source of love and giving in the company of a pet. Taking care of a pet is an excellent way to feel alive and its is proven that it brings significant health benefits. Furthermore, cats are clean creatures. It is their nature to urinate in a litter, not in elevators, as it was wrongly reported. Furthermore, cats prevent mice infestation. Pets present no health and safety issue to residents, only benefits. Please inquire about the Ontario law for all renters and see how you could apply it.
