Name: Rachel Cohen on Mar 3, 2007Comments: The legacy of repression at NEIU follows in a long and frightening tradition of university administrations which have used every resource at their disposal to stifle the ability of students to politicize their campuses, particularly when they work to raise a voice against war. The very students who ought to be honored for their dedication to developing an active and meaningful current of critical thought amongst their peers are the students the administration at NEIU has made a concerted effort to suppress and silence for years. Nonetheless, I found the treatment of these students a truly shocking abuse of student rights. I charge every member of the NEIU administration who does not actively defend these students' right to political participation and publicly denounce the actions Robin Wagner, the campus security members involved in these arrests and the CPD members who actually DID physically assault Matt and Ken, with being no better than common thugs and hypocrites, so intent to have their own way that they will let any injustice pass which suits their needs. And if they think by using brute force to hold back the voices of the students, faculty and staff at NEIU opposed to the sort of unmitigated disregard for human rights and dignity represented by the CIA and by military recruiters, that they have ensured peace and quiet in the corridors and the classrooms, and administrative offices of our campus, then I believe the signers of this petition can only be the first indication they will find that they are mistaken.City, State, Country: United StatesFlag

Name: Rachel Friedman on Mar 3, 2007Comments: An open event to all students is just that. Student tuition is what pays for NEIU to exist - they have an equal right to free speech. A double standard cannot be tolerated. Drop the charges.City, State, Country: Madison, WI USAFlag

Name: Toufic Haddad on Mar 3, 2007Comments: this is ridiculous. the administration must know that blood is on their hands and that they cannot turn a blind eye to the machinery of death which they facilitate. these brave students should be congradulated for their principled stance.City, State, Country: New YorkFlag

Name: Shirley Steinman on Mar 3, 2007Comments: There is no separate, assigned spot or time for peaceful protest in a democracy. The "assigned" spot at the last Republican convention may have mislead some people about free speech, as many things in the rule of the present administration have taken on a different color than most Americans believe should be true for their country. Please remember the Constitution we all live under, and, while you're at it, the Boston Tea Party.City, State, Country: Monroe, MI, U.S.Flag

Name: Paul McDowell on Mar 3, 2007Comments: The acton on the part NEIU is one further symptom of this country's slide into corporate fascism, and it is regretablel that the universities like this one are actively collaborating in this process by prohibiting free speech and the students' attempt to exercise it. Given the fact that this country started the Iraq war makes these actions damnable.City, State, Country: Santa Barbara, CA, USAFlag

Name: Lynne D. Garner on Mar 4, 2007Comments: As a 1993 M.A. graduate in linguistics who has taken numerous courses (and spent a lot of money) since then at NEIU and a current seminary student, I want to express my outrage at the apparent lack of freedom of expression being allowed at what claims to be a very diverse university. I would hope that those who desire peace are allowed equal time with the warmongers. I have serious doubts about my spending any further money at NEIU. There are plenty of other campuses where freedom of speech is a cherished right. If that is not allowed at NEIU, truly, what are the military recruiters to claim they are fighting forCity, State, Country: Chicago, IL, USAFlag

Name: Adam Norden on Mar 4, 2007Comments: The trumped-up charges against these two dedicated activists belie the political nature of this persecution. Is this the best we can do for NEIU students The CIA engages in torture, assassination, extraordinary rendition, propaganda, economic sabotage, extortion, drug trafficking, kidnapping, death squads, and undermines democracy around the world and at home. It is only just and right that students loudly and forcefully oppose the CIA when they invade our campus. Shame on you for once again selling out your students, whom you should be supporting.City, State, Country:Flag
