504 Christina BeacockThis is shocking, but not surprising, given NEIU's past attacks on student groups. These practices must stop.Chicago, IL
505 Peter KuttnerFree speech belongs in all institutions of learning, particularly public ones.
506 Jennifer TruskowskiThis meeting was a publicly open meeting and nobody should have been blocked from entering, whether they were entering to support or protest the CIA. Wagner´s and the university´s charges have no basis and in fact actually have testimonial evidence contrary. They should be dropped immediately. I used to attend NEIU, and this is shameful and embarrassing.
507 Paul Wesley GannelloPlease, allow me to sign the petition to support all students; and any other faculity members engaging in speaking their minds to all issues concerning their campus, and the lives of their fellow students at NorthWestern University. To the regaining of the meaning of FREEDOM which the sacred documents of the United States allowed on this soil for the differences of opinion to matter absent of consquences to the majority or minority of the opposing held viewpoint. Let us hope that this University of higher knowledge will not falter so unwisely as to trample on a document that has so nurtured it's being, that in freedom of speech; it' concept is allowing, respecting, and co-existing with other opinions, concepts, and lifestyles. Sincerely, BrandypopOak Park, Illinois

517 Kurt JohnsonI've always been under the impression that our centers of higher education represent the epitomy of American societal ideals: Free speech, rights to assemble, and the drive to hold our elected officials and tax-payer funded government institutions to the highest levels of accountability. Indeed they should, as these are the educational facilities that will mold and nuture the bulk of our future adult American citizens who will eventually run this country. This is not a dissertation on the right or wrong of the war in Iraq or any other agenda that the current administration pursues. It is, rather, a reality check, to remind American citizens that, even if you don't agree with a particular opinion or lifestyle, you have to respect a fellow citizens constitutional right to express themselves. This is the overlooked basic courtesy that democratic peoples grant to one another in the pursuit of a better society. As Americans today, though, we are severely polarized over a variety of issues, paramount among them the war in Iraq. This polarization and disagreement is perfectly natural, in fact, healthy for a democracy. What I see in the media and around me, though, is not healthy. I see labels slung around like "anti-american", "immoral", "traitor", etc., and it scares me more than I can remember any political or social event ever scaring me in my 31 years as a citizen. And now that a public college pursues a smear campaign and seeks to damage the lives and future careers of two of it's registered students, I am even more disturbed. They wanted simply to attend and peacefully protest a campus event that they politically and socially diagreed with, not to stifle said event's message and right to speak, but merely to express their own views on the matter at hand. Rather than allow all parties to speak freely and excercise their rights, NEIU administrators and security personnel ignored these students' rights and had them physically removed from the area and charged with "disruption" and "assault". Is this the America we want for the future? One where citizens with opinions contrary to the mainstream or the current administration are refused their rights and subsequently prosecuted, potentially damaging their efforts toward life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Is this the message to send to young Americans, that if you don't go along with the crowd and do what you're told, that you may face criminal prosecution? That if you dare to exercise your constitutional rights, you will be met with severe repercussions and have your future prosperity endangered? Do we really want to raise a new generation of Americans that are conformed, meek, petrified of authority, and refuse to speak their own minds against things that they know in their heart to be wrong? If our youth receive their education at facilities such as these, they will come to accept these practices as normal and proper, and when that happens, we can kiss or democracy good-bye. What we have then is a pseudo two-party democracy that acts the part, but will never really be accountable for anything, because no one will ever dissent. That is the perfect recipe for a government that does as it pleases at the expense of society. Sounds dangerous to me, and very scary. These charges should be dropped on principle, and an apology issued to both students for infringing on their rights as American citizens.Chicago, IL USA
518 Cynthia MendellI am close to 50 yrs old and remember similiar events first-hand during the Vietnam War protests. Anyone who is presiding at the level of Dean at a United States University should either know their history first hand from having lived through it, or if that person was possibly too drunk or high during that time, should go back and read about what happened. Please forward this to Pres. BshChicago

524 Mary RemingtonThis is completely outrageous and moronic to say the least. I, personally, along with all who know him, know that Ken Barrios is not and never will be the kind of person to do such a thing. All can look to his past record of generosity and kindness and see that he would only want the best for the greater good and would not harm an innocent bystander to do so. I agree with the demands stated and hope that this occurrence will not happen to any other students/youth/people who wish nothing but great things for those around them.Chicago, IL, USA

528 AnonymousPlease drop the charges and let them stay in school. It would be a disservice to the community outside and inside the University if you did not let them stay and drop the charges. Thank you!
529 Wayne MalchowSeems to me that the people who were assaulted were Mr Larson and Barrios. Mr Seems also that the university accompilshed their task of keeping the student out of the meeting. So, why continue to waste college time and resourses? I served 21 years in the US Marines defending the Constitution of the United States. I would like to think that includes the right of college students on thier own campus to express their opinions without being brutilized by campus police.Tinley Park, IL, USA

542 Abby SlateAs anyone who has met her knows, Robin Wagner is a very aggressive woman who brags about "kicking people's asses" while waving baseball bats. She has been known to threaten to kill people for chewing gum. She is physically unfit and slow mannered. Although she talks tough about her love for Bush-Cheney, the truth is she did not have the good sense to just step aside during a disruption, just remain in her secretary role, and she probably just fell down. She thought that she was defending the CIA. Quite frankly, she seems a little kooky and violent. She should think twice about perjury.
