451 Alfred KlingerIf military recruiters are allowed on campus then counter recruiters also need to be allowed. War as an instrument of policy has to be stopped. The recruiting of the military for recruits is part of that process of war making and needs to be curtailed drastically so there are more funds for education instead of military adventures and warChicago, IL
452 Shannon O'LaughlinI am a student at University of Illinois, and I am writing to express my concerns over the recent struggle for free speech at NEIU. I am in solidarity for the right to free speech on campuses across the nation. I am disappointed to hear of the suspension of the any talk of a free speech zone and an affirmation of the right to protest on our campus. I demand that you allow free speech on your campus, a right that we have as Americans. I support the students who demand the right to freely exercise their legal rights to protest the presence of military recruiters on campus without threat of administration or police retaliation or harassment. I urge you to drop the charges against students Ken Barrios and Matt Larson. As for the case against Matt Larson on assault, I urge you to have campus police interview witnesses who can attest to the truth of the incident. Please reconsider your actions. I am one of many students who are disappointed at a fellow university in Illinois.Urbana, IL, USA

484 Timi PapasI wonder what those U.S. soldiers, sailors and marines stationed in Iraq and at 750 U.S military bases around the world think they are fighting for anyway? So their peers at home can be arrested (!) and jailed (!) for stating their views? Ah, the irony ! But seriously. Those young men should by now have been freed. What a disgrace to the University of Illinois system! Shame on those administrators. Shame on any figures of authority who would suppress the taxpayer's right to know about and comment on the activities of the government that s/he is paying for! What is this? The Austro-Hungarian Empire? Sit down and be quiet? No. That's what consumers do, not what citizens do!Evanston, Illinois, U.S.A.

486 Jennifer WillardFreedom of speech is the backbone of this country; it is a right, not a privledge. It cannot be taken away because it is a right Americans receive because they were born in America - it's Constitutional. No university has the right to curtail this freedom.Yarmouth

500 Stephanie LogarasThese nature of these charges, against ken barrios and matt larsen, makes the NEIU campus seem like an unsafe and ignorant place for students exercising free speech. drop all of the charges.
