Free Speech is a right. It is the foundation upon which all other freedoms are based. Just as anyone has the right to criticize Christians and Jews, to burn a bible or the American flag, a person also has the right to criticize Islam, burn a Koran and draw cartoons of Muhammad. Protecting the right of free speech for everyone, regardless of their religion or political ideology, is of the highest importance.
In order to promote a better understanding of the importance of free speech, it is imperative that an International Free Speech Day be established and observed on an annual basis. By signing this petition, I assert that I support the creation of an International Free Speech Day.
