In the US there are 40 states that recognize the right to carry, 36 of which are "shall issue" states. The time has come for the US to adopt a national CCW license. The right to bear arms is a second amendment right which is being subtly removed. If an individual is deemed suitable to carry a weapon in their state of residence, that individual should not need to prove their suitability to any other state or jurisdiction. Much like the drivers license it would be issued in your state of residence and recognized nationally. I plan to send this petition to my state house (NH) by November 1, 2008.

I am a New Hampshire resident for 10 years now and have enjoyed the freedom of this state. I was recently denied a CCW in the Commonwealth of Mass and am currently appealing the decision. My denial letter stated that there \"are no disqualifying convictions\" on my record but it raised issues of my suitability. It was denied on the basis of a bounced check in 1998. New Hampshire had no issues giving me a CCW permit. I find it rediculous that I need to apply to each state i travel through so that I can carry a gun. The government says it is ok for me to travel interstate with an 80,000 pound truck but not with my handgun. I believe that it is time for this to change.
