861 Ira TattelmanWe cannot promote education without the minimal funding that is now being cut back. The arboretum is a national resource especially in this time of green promotion. Let's hold onto and promote the DC resources that have an experiential effect on their visitors and users. Restore and increase National Arboretum funding.
862 Audrey E. EhrlerThe Arboretum is a place of peace, grace and beauty. It is an oasis in the heart of a busy city and our Nation's Capitol. It is a place where educational opportunities abound. It is our Nation's Garden, where both US citizens and foreign visitors can view natural beauty and seek solace. I urge President Bush and our law makers to visit the US Arboretum and then vote to reverse the proposed budget. Please support this National Treasure by re-instating the funds needed to operate our Nation's Garden properly.
863 Nancy ZearfossThe National Arboretum is true national treasure. Do not let it be shut down.

865 AnonymousPlease re-think the reductions -- it's a lean operation to start with. Most important, the national arboretum provides a great place for the urban public -- both those who visit from out of town and those who live here -- to appreciate the enormous value of shared green space. It's gorgeous, too!

869 Antoinette ConradThe National Arboretum should be fully funded. I have seen beautiful gardens in Europe which are government funded. We need to cherish our national treasures instead of ruining them.
870 Sharon FortunakPlease support the National Arboretum. Thank you.
871 Micah WatsonThe Arboretum is one of DC's greatest treasures, both for its importance to the environment and for its contributions to human community, sustenance and enhancement. Please do everything you can to keep it a free, public resource for everyone.

876 John Tobe, Ph. D.The national arboretum was instrumental in providing plant material both from the living collections and from the herbarium for my graduate work.
877 margaret walkerPlease reinstate the full funding for our National Arboretum; a national treasure, premier research institution, and favorite peaceful place for my family to visit.
878 Eileen WalkerI grew up in the 40's and 50's at the Plant Introducton Garden, Bell Station, MD, and my dad worked for some of the people who were involved with the Arboretum, among them B.Y. Morrison and Dr. John Creech, so the arboretum is an important part of my history. We must preserve its programs!

890 John L. EhrlerThe National Arboretum must be rescued from the threat of such severe cuts in programs. Especially important is to ensure that weekends remain open for the enjoyment of friends and visitors.
891 Marie WheatleyPlease restore the $2 million dollars for the National Arboretum. It is important to highlight and exhibit the results of the ARS research activities.

896 Dana R. ShawIn a time when our planet is under stress due to climate change and pollution, it is of the utmost importance to keep up the research needed to preserve our plant life and enlarge our species collection, and staff to maintain the Arboretum collections that educate and inspire the next generation to preserve our world.

898 Erin ClarkI recently left the Arboretum as a place of employment because they cannot afford to pay competive salaries to the good employees they have now. Please don't force the wonderful people remaining to leave or be cut because of further budget cuts. Many people around the city and beyond come to the Arboretum for peace, tranquility and garden learning. The vital programs and maintenance of Educations and Gardens would be cut if this atrocity goes through. Please let the Arboretum see another 80 years.
