Name: Lauren Malcolm on Dec 15, 2009Comments: My mother as a young girl used to dive at the natatorium in the twenties. We treasure the photos taken of her there with Buster Crabbe and Johnny Weismuller. Even without this family tie I can't bear to think of losing this wonderful monument. I no longer live in the islands, but every time I visit it seems Waikiki looks more and more like Miami. This is one small effort we can make to slow down this process. History does matter.Flag

Name: Patricia Goff on Dec 18, 2009Comments: Please save this piece of history before it is to late. Once something is demolished it can never be replaced. New construction is not as good as old construction and you would be saving our resources. It is also the green thing to do.Flag

Name: Errin Edlin on Dec 18, 2009Comments: It would be shortsighted to allow the loss of this landmark. The face of Waikiki changes so much, it's important to save some of the important and relevant historical sights - and it would be a boon to tourism to fix up the pool where Duke Kahanamoku once trained.Flag

Name: Magie Fishburne on Dec 18, 2009Comments: It seems a shame to to half way with this project...sounds like the "pro's" far outweigh the "cons" on the project. Thanks so much...what a part of history to just destroy when you've already got it have redone!!!!!Flag

Name: Sandra Clifford Teeple on Dec 18, 2009Comments: America has precious few monuments to World War I veterans. Why not continue the restoration that was started and save this memorial. Restoration almost always costs less, and does far less environmental damage, than demolition. It also can provide jobs and vocational training.Flag

Name: Stephen A. Montgomery on Dec 19, 2009Comments: After demolishing the Natatorium in 90 years do we demolish the Viet Nam Veterans' memorial? in 30 more years do we bulldoze the new WWII memorial? Get real! Restore this tribute to those who paid the ultimate price! As a proud vet this demolition proposal deeply offends me.Flag

Name: Amy Wissner on Dec 19, 2009Comments: As the centennial anniversary of the 'war to end all wars' approaches let us make the effort to preserve, honor and remember. What better example than this, a memorial that is participatory and provides for the community instead of just being viewed by it.Flag

Name: Elyette M. Weinstein on Dec 19, 2009Comments: In the monotonous spawl of brass and glass of Waikiki that looks like a stip mall, the Natatorium stands out as something old, classic and dignified. It should be restored. It is one of the few sites of historical interest in this adult chain store Disneyland. Please don't destroy the one area of Waikiki that retains some dignity. There is irony if not shame in destroying a monument to the war dead when the rest of Waikiki is infested with tacky trinket shrines that debase the land's natrual beauty.Flag

This would be a great dishonor to these veterans that gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country. I respectfully plead that you preserve this memorial. Kind regards, Karl M Andrews US Army Security Agency, 2/62--2/65Flag
