Name: Carol Barnett on Mar 2, 2010Comments: My friends and I come from Birmingham for a fun filled "girls week", as we look forward to the Jenkins shows and Heart of Country. We simply cannot come two separate weeks. We must make a choice which show to attend as we cannot arrange to be away from work, etc for two weeks. Please, please put them back together.Flag

What I do know is that separate the shows are less than they could and should be. Together there is a synergy that works for promoters, dealers and buyers, which in the end means better quality and more financial reward for all. All three shows fill an important niche, and all three shows have served each other well. Its been a great tradtion that folks have asked me about in my travels throughout the country. Nashville supports the shows, but Nashville has a right to expect the best! Right now, nne are at their best.Flag

I do not know if the admission change was the result of the separate show business or not. BUT, your new pricing structure is ridiculous. Being paid for two shows is ridiculous. Either or or both. Give a choice.Flag

Name: Lynn Etling on Mar 2, 2010Comments: I find the tailgate and music city far superior to heart of the country. Heart of the Country is overpriced and overhyped - however if it contributes to the continuation of the tailgate and music city shows - then by all means PLEASE schedule them at the same time. I do however prefer the fairground format to the old stip motels. I am a collector only and I do most of my antique buying at the autumn and spring shows - for example I spent $4,000.00 at the recent February show. I didn't even get to the garden show. I don't want these shows to go away. I personally could care less about Heart of the Country but please do anything you need to do to preserve the other two.Flag

Name: Dave Hobson on Mar 2, 2010Comments: i must mirror the above message. we (my wife and I ) love both shows but distance and time constraints make us choose one or the other. We buy from both but can only make it to 1 date. We strongly agree with the message of co_locating or at least combining time slots. combining the date would have possibly overcome the weather constraints that kept me from both shows this year since this now would be "The" Date. Thanks for great shows in the past.Flag

I deal mainly with glassware. I did tremendously enjoy the Springfield, OH, show when the last big one was held. I am interested in keeping all shows alive and well in Nashville. Whatever needs to be done, let's do it.Flag

Name: Kim And Mary Kokle on Mar 2, 2010Comments: As 30 year full time veterans of the antiques business and 10 years promoting a very successful antique show, we think we figured out what created a successful show; happy dealers. This business is not about us individually, it is about the stuff. Good dealers bring good stuff, good stuff attract the buyers and all go home happy; promoters, dealers, and public. Venues, especially in this economic times are desperately needed. This petition itself shows there is still strong support for american antiques, now all is needed is the venue to get dealers and collectors together. Promoters need to do everything they can to get the dealers back and shows on the right footing. Patrons expected 3 shows at Nashville and if it is going to work, they should give the public what they want. Promoters are asking for continued support and for dealers to keep prices reasonable. We did lower our prices at Nashville, sold well, but made less money. Promoters should choose to support the business by doing the same. Now we challenge the promoters to follow, lower booth prices, charge less for showcases and paper, start in a rebuilding process and make the shows more enticing for dealers to do, and above all, treat your dealers with the respect they deserve. We do know how much money can be made as a promoter so we know all can afford to make less. It is time for everyone to make a change. Push aside personal feelings and start looking to a 5 year plan where Nashville and all other venues can go back to the glory days (sorry Bruce Springsteen).Flag

Name: Suzanne Ford on Mar 2, 2010Comments: I am going to be very frank in this letter. I do hope you will read it and take it to heart. Hallelujah!!! I'd love to know who started this petition so I could thank them. Now the question, will you the promoters listen or have you made so much money that you just don't care about the dealers and the customers who have put millions of dollars in your pockets. I have attended shows in Nashville for 20 years now. It is no longer a great venue. My friends and I discussed on our trip home this February whether it was worth coming back to next year. The dealers that I have purchased from for years are no longer coming to the shows and therefore the buying opportunity is no longer available. There were far fewer people at opening night for Music Valley and throughout the weekend. Please open your eyes. I have heard from more than one dealer that the Jenkins family looks at dealers as $100.00 bills. I believe this came from a keynote speech given by Steven Jenkins at a conference. What a sorry statement. I have also heard repeatedly that most promoters, industry wide, "hate" one another and will do anything to see that their competition fails. Again, what a sorry, sad statement. Exactly why are all of you in this business? Why do you not honor and respect those that have provided you with wonderful lives, your dealers and customers. Nashville is failing! Do you the promoters care? If so do the right thing and put all the shows back to the same week. It is the only thing that will save them.Flag

Going to Nashville for the Grand Old Goodies was the highlight of my year - for many years. Now, as a dealer, I have had to choose between the shows because I can't afford to make 2 trips to Nashville. The economy is bad enough by itself - please don't continue to drag our business down. Name: Tyler Thompson on Mar 2, 2010Comments: Besides rejoining the 3 events, there needs to be a similar proximity of locations. The fairgrounds were a nice improvement for the TG and MV shows with total climate control and better lighting but worse food choices and expenses to run a booth overall (even considering the fewer days). Please consider similar proximity (doesn't have to be at a Grand Hotel) but hotels, food, and environment are all part of the shopping experience that bring people back year after year.Flag

Name: Lynn Jackson on Mar 2, 2010Comments: Frankly, my friends and I could care less if Heart is at the same time. The problems presently are due ot the economy and the lack of interest by young people. The market MUST find some way to promote Am. country with a new perspective...However, I also feel that the promoters should consider cutting the rents at least within the next year since it is so difficult for so many dealers. Everyone will have to sacrifice a little....and maybe even the entry fees. Hopefully there will be a different venue than the fairgrounds (I heard the rumor, the show would move to Franklin). Why don't all the dealers ban together to out a new and different marketing for antiques....exp: marry antique design with mid century modern. Portray country antiques more as "works of art" I am sure many heads together could come up with fabulous ideas. I think many dealers have become complacent. And as a buyer not an exhibitor...rethink your prices. Everyone I know is astounded at prices that are in the thousands when we private sellers have sold the item to them for $400....if dealers want to make a living be realistic but if this is a game they are playing...what most buyers think...get real. Please don't say, "Well, I have so much in it"....respect the people you buy from more and remember we will tell others stories of how unreal it was to see an unthinkable price for something that is not worth it. We old timers ...55-80 years have seen it all. The year before last 4 friends and I had a sale .... we put the price we wanted on the item and we made $30,000 from only about 40 people. Finally, when pictures are shown of the items that were at the last show....PUT THE PRICES. No one likes to be played with and we do know you bargain....everyone knows that.Flag

Name: Betty Ray Swan on Mar 2, 2010Comments: I totally agree. We did come in the fall and were disappointed with not having the three shows together. I felt sorry for the dealers as the crowd was just not like it should have been. We did not attend this February. It would be a win win situation if you could somehow put it all together again and we will support you. I did talk with one lady, who had flown in from Texas as she usually did. She said that she was sorry she went to the effort. Thank you for your consideration. I know that this will probably not ever happen, but when the shows were at the motels it had a certain charm that a lot of us liked.Flag

Due to my family's health and my job requirements, I cannot "get away" for two separate weekends in order to enjoy the shows. The shows have served as a wonderful education experience, networking opportunity, and have offered the chance to obtain some fantastic items along the way. So, please attempt to organize the reuniting of the shows again! Thanks!Flag

Name: Richard And Rose Schmidt on Mar 2, 2010Comments: We did not attend any show this February since we could not attend both and could not agree which show would provide the most rewarding weekend. We live in south Georgia and it takes ten hours to get to Nashville. We usually make a weekend of it taking our time to go through the three shows and enjoy Nashville. Putting the three shows back together will certainly result in our returning to Nashville. Please bring them back!Flag

My wife and I have been coming to the shows for the past 10 years and was our favorite antique experience each year. The trip for us is a 22 hour rond trip .We had to decide the past two years which show we would attend . We tried both last year and was too much . This year we attended the Heart and discussed how we missed and looking foward to a show opening up everyday . We buy at each show for each has its own style of antiques . Everyone had a great thing going and should be returned to benfit all Thank You , Philip LivingstonFlag

Name: Gary D. Gardner on Mar 2, 2010Comments: The Tennessee State Fairgrounds is the ideal place for the combined event. After a person travels 350 miles to attend an antique show, the last thing a person wants to do is to spend $18.00 to park your car at Opryland and then pay to enter the Heart of the Country Show. The last time I went to the Heart of the Country (couple years ago) I saw several signs indicating parking to be $18. This year I did not attend H of the C and will not again as long as we are charged for parking. This year's Tailgate show at the fairgrounds was much more customer friendly and there were many more dealers than at last H of C that I attended....there were far few dealers and the customer count was way down. This year's show at the Fairgrounds was great......the addition of H of the C to that venue at the fairgrounds would be a plus for all involved.Flag

Name: Elizabeth Sue Shepard on Mar 2, 2010Comments: I totally agree! I have attended the Tailgate & Music Valley shows for years, unforturnately the weather was a factor in missing the show this year. I think another thing to consider is the harsh weather in February. That probably greatly contributed to the attendance of dealers and customers this year. Please put them back together again and I think it would be wise to consider a different month!! Those are the only shows that this Southeast area has to offer and it would be a shame for them to be diminished.Flag

The quality has really gone down, this year was a big disappointment. The admission is way too high. When I am shopping/working I do not want to pay for or take the time to eat finger foods that are tacked on to admission. Thanks, hope you bring the ''olde'' shows back...I personally like the motel setting better than fairgrounds....seems more personal.Flag
