The show is nothing like it was in the past, the Customers are gone, along with some great Dealers. Some thing need to be done, to save these great showsFlag

Name: Scott Jenkins on Feb 27, 2010Comments: Dont forget the Fiddlers Antique Show at the Fiddlers Inn across the street from the Heart of Country. The Fiddlers Antique Show has run with the Heart of Country the last 2 years on the same dates and is booked to run 2011 with the Heart. The Fiddlers Antique Show wishes all the shows could run on the same date but others would not care and do not want to compliment the traditional Nasville weekend dates. Cant we all just get along! Name: Harvey Pranian on Feb 27, 2010Comments: Amen, I personally made it my goal to talk to as many dealers as possible and 12 of the ones that I talked with said that they had no sales at all. I personally had gross sales of $1200 with expenses of $4000. I also heard from customers who had some from outside Nashville who said that they would never come back again. One woman, a designer who owns her own firm in Aspen. Co said to me that she would never come back to the Heart of Country show, because part of the attraction in the past was the combination of shows all at the same time. It is insane not to establish a collaborative effort. Making either show bigger is not the answer. This would only put money in the pockets of the promoters, but not in the pockets of the dealers. Good dealers would continue to disappear and lower quality dealers would eventually turn either show into an event that neither Libby nor Dick would be proud of. All one has to do is look at the collaborative efforts being made in the business world. Baskin & Robbins joined forces with Dunkin Donuts, companies have consolidated. Wendys, McDonalds and Subway are under one roof in many parts of the country. Here in my home town of Evanston, Illinois there are countless excellent restuarants and they all do very well. It has become a destination for people who are looking for quality. If there were only one or several here, they would all eventually fail. The MESSAGE IS EVERYWHERE TO BE SEEN, and promoters of antique events need to open take notice. The promoters of Heart of Country and Music Valley need to get past their differences and join forces to revitilize both shows. This can only happen if there is a collaborative effort. Otherwise, both will change radically for the worse and may in fact suffer eventual extinction. A wake up call is in order, otherwise some of us will not be able to afford to return and the kinds of customers we need to attend with not continue make the journey.Flag

Name: DARWIN BEARLEY on Feb 28, 2010Comments: Why do show managers constantly ruin a good thing? Especially managers the have been dealers anf should know what dealers want/need. Look around at all the really good shows that aren't anymore. With the economy in its current state, with no quilk fix in site, managers, now more than ever need to stop being stupid and greedy and do the truly intelligent thing to keep a good thing going. We all know the Tailgate would not have succeeded without Heart. Hell, there would not have been a Tailgate without Heart. It's time to stop the greedy stupidy and schedual all the shows at the same time and be done with it or both shows are going to go the way of Mid Atlantic and other shows that used to be great...Flag

Name: Stephen Cirillo on Feb 28, 2010Comments: It's time for the promoters to realize that it's all about doing what's best for the customers and dealers participating in the shows. Dividing a series of quality shows that have always been very successful in the past was a very poor decision that has brought dealer and customer discontent. In my opinion as with many others that I have spoken with, feel the (current) Nashville shows are far less than what they use to be when they were on together in the same area and same week. It's not difficult to see that all three shows (as they were) played off each other and provided much more energy and excitement. We must all stand together, as dealers, to ensure the promoters are doing all they can for the shows...for the dealers... for the customers!!Flag

Name: Alex Chronis on Feb 28, 2010Comments: I commend the person or people involved in sending this petition. I have longed for some way for dealer's to organize, or at least communicate with one another. That being said, this petition is too long and too lite. The Jenkins Show promoters have done the bare minimum at every show I have attended. I have asked around to other dealers and heard nothing but negativity. It's time for all dealers to step up and say enough is enough. A new promoter with better sense will emerge. Out with the Old. Antique Dealers are the last to say this, and this is why we attend show after failed show. The first promoter who reconfigures what an antique show is wins. 1. Higher end shows need clean convention center-like places. 2. Higher end shows do not give curtains to some, walls to others, then stagger the openings. This is bipolar. 3. Higher end shows spend alot on PROMOTION. 4. Higher end shows have enough people employed to handle all the dealers requests. I've done Music Valley once... never again. Springfield Extravaganza is a giant circus of dysfunction. Can't you see how they have confused a higher end show with a flea market?Flag

Name: Tom O'Hara on Feb 28, 2010Comments: While I do not agree with all the prose in the petition, I would like to see if Humpty Dumpty could be put back together again. After seeing the two Jenkins shows and Heart in the last couple weeks, it seems that Heart has more to gain by realigning with Jenkins but for the dealers and customers the realigning makes sense. Heart had only 67 dealers with 62 people waiting at 6 o'clock for the Thursday evening opening. The problem would be at what facility would all the shows best unite? Fiddlers and Radisson are not especially condusive and Opryland is too expensive. What about all three going to some other location, in a united front.? Comments? This petition and comments may be published or at least condensed in the next month or two because it is newsworthy. If I do run with it, there will be no names attached to comments unless the writer specifically says to use his/her name.Flag

Name: Kathy Hind on Feb 28, 2010Comments: If the promoters are unable to put their differences aside, soon there will be NO Nashville shows. All will lose: promoters, dealers, customers, the city. The antiques business needs all the help it can get right now and returning the 3 shows to their central location with nearby hotels and restaurants within walking distance just MAY bring the customers back. Please make this happen soon, before it ALL goes away.Flag

In these days brused egos have to be put aside, and to survive you have to do what is best for your dealers. Without them, you have no show at all. I know that a lot of New England Dealers won't make the trip next year unless the shows go back to the same weekend. Probably the hotels at Opry Land are out, but at least shuttles or something between the two. The Garden show doesn't help us at all.Flag

After I sent the first comment, I remembered a very wise woman, once sending me this saying, on a contract, for her Show..." Bears make money, and Bulls, make money.... Pigs don't"... I was taken back, for a moment... She was conveying to her dealers, we are in tough economic times, and we need to 're-think, how we price our merchandise... She also said, to me personally, "We must be diverse".... I loved, and respected this woman... Her name... Libby Kramer.... I hope we can make her proud, and bring this all together...
