On Thursday April 4, 2013 one of Jackson's finest, Detective Eric Smith was gunned down in the line of duty. This petition however is not about the way Detective Smith died, but the way he chose to live. He was quite simply a good man. Good men are not hard to find, they're just often overlooked. During his lifetime Detective Smith was a dedicated son, brother, father, husband, law enforcement officer and most of all.....THE MOST DIEHARD SAINTS FAN IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI!. Detective Smith loved the Saints football team so much it was a running joke between him and the entire department. He played so many pranks on fans of other teams they too would secretly become Saints fans. His dedication to the team was so well known, the local CBS Affiliate, WJTV eventually took notice and took viewers on a tour of Detective Smith's "Saintsuary", his lovingly decorated mancave dedicated to the New Orleans Saints. After years of hanging on to hope, Detective Smith spent the entire year gloating after the very first New Orleans Saints SuperBowl win. Help us reach 175,000 signatures by signing our petition asking the New Orleans Saints Football Franchise to honor our fallen officer by naming him an honorary New Orleans Saint.
