I feel that, even though the state of Virginia doesn't recognize same-sex marriages or civil unions, we shall have the right to choose the surname of the spouse that proposed. Also I feel that the name change, as well as a wedding band, symbolizes love a same-sex couple feels for each other. I also feel that we should be able to hyphenate our birth names with our spouse's last name.
