Over 60 years ago, American promised Magdaleno Duenas - and thousands of Filipinos like him - U.S. military status and benefits in honor of their service protecting the Philippines and America\'s interests there during World War II. On February 27, 2005, Duenas died at the age of 90, without ever receiving the benefits promised to him. Thousands more will die waiting for these benefits...unless we do something now. Recent changes in Congress present us with a limited window of opportunity to finally correct this injustice. Please help us right this wrong and provide the full equity promised to Filipino veterans by signing this petition: We, the undersigned individuals and organizations, strongly support passage of HR 760/ S 57, the Filipino Veterans Equity Act. This is an issue of treating ALL of our veterans with fairness and respect, and affects not just Filipino Americans, but all Americans. During World War II, Filipino veterans fought bravely for the United States in the Pacific theater, only to have their eligibility for full benefits revoked by Congress through the Rescission Act of 1946. For decades, Filipino veterans have been fighting this injustice, and as they enter their twilight years, are now dying with dreams deferred and promises broken. HR 760/ S 57 will restore justice for these veterans, who fought and sacrificed for freedom and liberty. While the U.S. government has taken steps to restore some health care benefits to the veterans in recent years, full equity has not yet been achieved. Many of the veterans are now in their 80s, and too many of their comrades have already died without receiving the benefits they deserve. HR 760/ S 57 will amend current law to consider the service of eligible Filipino veterans who fought in World War II to be active service for purposes of benefits under programs administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. HR 760/ S 57 will undo the injustice committed against the Filipino veterans through the 1946 Recission Act, which denied these brave soldiers appropriate recompense for their duty. HR 760/ S 57 will allow these veterans to spend their golden years enjoying the fruits of their sacrifices for freedom and liberty, instead of fighting the very government they fought for in World War II. We need your help now to provide justice to our Filipino Veterans who fought bravely under the U.S. flag as part of the
