Name: Nancy Kent on Jan 28, 2008Comments: We moved into this neighborhood to be part of Creekside, feeling confident since the rezoning from Parkwood happened 2 years prior to our move. My kindergarten daughter loves her school, and we feel safe and comforted everyday that she attends. She is growing academically and emotionally. This success will be jolted if she has to adjust to another school. We have a 3 year old that can't wait to join her sister's school. We wanted to have a home where our kids could live throughout their school years. Creekside was the best option we found in all of Durham. Overcrowding is happening in all the schools in this area, and it will not be fixed by moving the problem. There need to be decisions made for the long term, not kneejerk reactions to a growing issue. Every year new developments are built and where will these kids go Do we move the line every year and destroy the stability our kids depend on for their security. Kids are not as resilient as we all think and transitions like these shatter their sense of dependability on all of us who are supposed to protect them. How do they learn to trust if everything can change overnight. We just went through the addition of 2 new classrooms because there were too many kindergarteners in the classes. My daughter cried thinking about losing her teacher and classmates--how do I explain that now she may have to start all over again right when she was doing so well Please think this through and remember we are all here for the kids...What neigborhood do you live in: Wellington ForestFlag

Name: June Yount on Jan 28, 2008Comments: Please allow our children to continue learning in the school they love. Disrupting this journey can be damaging to their sense of security and will have a huge effect on their academic and emotional development. this is a decision to be made over time with consideration to long term development of our community. This should not be a quick reaction and move the problem. Please work with the PTA and the city to agree on a plan where everyone can work together to continue the success of our school. My child loves going to school each day--don't take that away from her and all the others who make up the community of Creekside. What neigborhood do you live in: Wellington ForestFlag

It would be a great disservice to the children and residents of Durham for this to be the solution when a much more viable long-term alternative (i.e., moving ahead with the planned and budgeted building expansion) that the residents voted and approved. What neigborhood do you live in: Huntington RidgeFlag

Name: Edward L. Kwon on Jan 29, 2008Comments: Our children work very hard to achieve success in school and are proud of their achievements. Creekside is not just another building or entity for them it is an extension of the values and hard work they do both on and off campus. Moving our children to another school would be like cutting them off from all of their previous accomplishments and having to start all over again in a strange environment. Expedite the building plans, be proactive in creating a facility that can accommodate the children rather than lay the onus of solving the overcrowding problem on the shoulders of the childrenWhat neigborhood do you live in: Hutnington RidgeFlag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 29, 2008Comments: My wife and specifically moved to this neighborhood, from Chapel HIll, with the understanding that our son and daughter would be able to attend Creekside, one of the only elementary schools in Durham with a good track record. Our son would be distraught if he had to change schools again. Durham's decision to redraw the school zone feels like a bait and switch and will discourage high-end growth (and the associated increased tax base) from continuing to flow into southern Durham. Durham should skip the bandage solution and speed up the planned expansion of Creekside. What neigborhood do you live in: Huntington RidgeFlag

Name: Martha W. Thompson on Jan 29, 2008Comments: My daughter is a single mother with a child that has gone to Creekside from kindergarten to the present; she is in the second grade. My major concern is that my granddaughter will have to start over and get acclimated to new school, new friends, new teachers and administrators. Not to neglect to mention the fact that Creekside is in the direction my daughter takes to get to her job. And if her daughter should need her she could get to her in a shorter time from her work place. Please reconsider and move ahead with the (8) classroom expansion in order to accommodate the growing number of children. What neigborhood do you live in:Flag

Name: Peter Muse on Jan 29, 2008Comments: I request Huntington Ridge remain in the Creekside district. School overcrowding can only be delayed unless the school board has input in the rezoning and building permits granted to developers. Durham must learn from Wake county that massive development without critical and detailed analysis of services and school requirements will only cause future problems for our county. What neigborhood do you live in: Huntington RidgeFlag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 29, 2008Comments: We intentionally purchased a home in the Creekside school district so that our son could begin his school career at Creekside. I sincerely hope that the wishes of this remarkable school communtiy will be heard and honored. These requests are in the best interest of these children, their families, and our communities. Creekside is an excellent example of what is good about Durham and its schools, and DPS should do everything in their power to make sure that it stays that way. What neigborhood do you live in: Downing CreekFlag

Name: Luci Pestana on Jan 29, 2008Comments: We are deeply concerned about the possible redistricting of Creekside! Not only did we purchase our home in July of 2007 for the SOLE purpose that it was zoned to Creekside (despite the fact that it requires my husband to make a significant commute to his job at all hours of the day and night,) and not only have we been very pleased with my son's first-grade experience at Creekside thus far, but we will also be forced to SELL our home in 2 1/2 years due to my husband's job. The impact this adjustment will have on the value of our home is a real (albeit secondary) issue for us! Please consider all the options to preserve our school community, and to treat those who sought out Creekside fairly. We have all made very real decisions based on our children being able to attend this school, and there is no community and PTA more willing to assist in making our school environment a stable and effective one! What neigborhood do you live in: OakhavenFlag

Name: Nicolas Guex on Jan 29, 2008Comments: Knowing that our children would go to Creekside was a key decision factor in purchasing a house in our neighborhood, because the school is new, has great teachers and is nearby (short school bus ride). We have been very very very happy with the school teachers as well as the school facilities, and our kids love their school. Coming from a foreign language country, our son had some difficulty pronouncing some sounds, which had a big impact on his ability to communicate with other children. He followed some speech therapy at Creekside with Ms Miller, and I have been stunned to see immediate progress after the very first lesson. As a result, his problem has been solved in a record time, increasing his and our quality of life. Creekside is a great school, and the PTA organizes a lot of activities, and there is a great sense of community. Our kids never complained about being in a crowded school, and are proud to belong to "Creekside Eagles". We believe that quickly adding trailers and voting for an extension of school buildings is the best way to solve this challenge and would avoid a disruptive displacement of Creekside children. Kids need an environment as stable as possible. What neigborhood do you live in: Downing CreekFlag
