Name: Nicole Williams on Mar 14, 2010Comments: WE support Kris Bergstrom 100% and feel that MUS would not be the school it is without her at the helm. Our children benefit from her in so many ways and I would be hard-pressed to find a better person for her job or Mr. Douglas' job for that matter. She deserves our support and our respect and our voice.Flag

Name: Patrick Williams Jr. on Mar 14, 2010Comments: We want Kris to keep her job and possibly take over Dick Douglas job. I have never experienced a more caring, hard working, professional and all around great person like Kris. She is a part of MUS, a part of what makes that school how great it is and in turn helps our children become better. WE support her 100%Flag

Name: James H. Selbert on Mar 15, 2010Comments: By releasing Kris Bergstrom from her position as principal you have placed the future of Montecito Union School in jeopardy. You have undermined the confidence parents and staff have in MUS and destabilized the institution. As a board and individually, you have violated your primary responsibility to safeguard the institution you are charged with leading. You spent $60,000 on consultants who have rendered a report that is invalid because of its insufficient sample size. Specifically, the number of respondents, 70, compared to the population of students and staff, approximately 445, make the result of your organizational review statistically meaningless. We have confidence in the school, we have confidence in Ms. Bergstrom, we have lost our confidence in the Board. Does the board have a hidden agenda or is it merely incompetent? WE DEMAND A NEW ORGANIZATIONAL REVIEW Sincerely, Patricia & Jim Selbert (Parents of Spencer Selbert, grade 1, and Stefan Selbert, class of 2006)Flag

Thank you Mary and good luck as you're truly fighting the good fight on this! KellyFlag

Name: Sarah Farmer on Mar 15, 2010Comments: I don't know exactly what lies behind this descision. But from the perspective of a former MUS student (in the late '70's) now a current MUS parent, I can say with complete confidence that Ms Bergstrom is the esscence of what makes our little berg what it is. She is personable, approachable, highly competant, efficient, quirky, a "power broker" in her own right and equally down to earth in as much as any respected friend whom I would welcome to my dinner table. Our children thrive under her guidance, humor, and tenacity. I am troubled by this descision to fix/change what is not broken. Have we not been damaged enough as a community by the tremendous exodus of friends and neighbors unable to continue to call montecito home because of our suffering economy? Must we make our beloved school suffer as well?Flag

I think it would be in the best interest to the integrity of MUS that sets it apart from other schools that she remain as principle next year.Flag

Name: Justine Roddick on Mar 15, 2010Comments: If the Board handles the 'releasing' of a much loved Principle so badly, what else are they screwing up? This should have been an inclusive process and not an exclusive one. The lack of transparency and the refusal to answer straight forward questions is bizarre. The incompetence is monumental and they should have the decency to remember that their job is, in part, to represent our vision for MUS, which includes having Kris Bergstrom as the Principle.Flag

Name: Joan Crossland on Mar 15, 2010Comments: As you need time to make a decision about whether or not to move ahead with the proposed structure changes, I believe it better to have Ms Bergstrom continue in her current role as Principal over the next year while the Superintendant/CEO position is hired. If you hire that position based upon the recommended job duties and make it clear to the the parent body and Ms Bergstrom, that her current job description will require a change in order to hire a Vice Principal ( I don't like the corporate sounding or private school titles). I'm assuming she can refuse to take on any of the duties that are recommended in the Chief Academic Officer position if she has not previously had to perform because of contract rules, but at least that gives the Board time to communicate well in advance what the Principal's job description will be for 2011-12, and it will be Ms. Bergstrom's choice to remain at MUS or not based upon her willingness to do what the Board (as a voice of the parent body) has determined is the best organizational structure for the entire school operation.Flag

Name: Seth Epstein on Mar 15, 2010Comments: We moved to Montecito because of the leadership of Kris Bergstrom. I have always told our LA friends how amazing the leadership at MUS is. However this latest news is completely INCONSISTENT with the best interests of the school or the children. Reinstate Ms. Bergstrom. The decision was clearly inconsistent with the majority of parents wishes and please remember, WE ARE THE CUSTOMER. SethFlag
