I am very excited to share with you the details of Mrs. America's organization teaming up with The National Association of Music Education's petition for Equal Access to Music Education drive and our Spare Your Change to Spare Music Education fund raising campaign. The goal of this campaign is to create awareness and support for music education and to demonstrate that music education receives only a small bit of change from every education dollar that is spent. We will bring signed petitions to the steps of the U.S. Department of Education on Thursday, June 18, 2009 as part of a huge music education rally. Thousands of students, along with their music teachers and parents will bring their own change to Washington D.C. and share their vision of the future of music education with the new administration and Secretary of Education. Our goal is to collect one million signatures to present to the new Secretary of Education at the June 2009 rally. The goal of the Spare change drive is to collect as much spare change as possible to demonstrate that music still only gets a small bit of change from every dollar spent on education in America. Remember, pocket change is music to our ears! The money that is collected will go to support programs that advance music education.

MENC: The National Association for Music Education, the world's largest arts education organization, marked its centennial in 2007 as the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. More than 142,000 members and supporters represent all levels of teaching from preschool to graduate school. Since 1907, MENC has worked to ensure that every student has access to a well-balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality program of music instruction taught by qualified teachers. MENC's activities and resources have been largely responsible for the establishment of music education as a profession, for the promotion and guidance of music study as an integral part of the school curriculum, and for the development of the National Standards for Arts Education.
