It is the only place I can take my 4 children to ride thier bikes safely with out concern of Autos runing them over. I also go to the trails at least 2 times a week with friends to ride the single track dirt trails to have a challenging work out. The best single track trails are all on the Noth side of the paved trail and I would hate to see them go.Flag

Name: Jesus Lozano Jr on Aug 31, 2010Street Address: 1809A MIDLANE HARLINGEN, TX.Zip Code: 78552Comments: My family and I like to go to the Mission Trails because its the one place our kids can ride their bikes and we don't have to worry about traffic. We live in Harlingen but my parents live in Mission and we go visit once a week and we go visit the trails every chance we get. I have also helped in the buliding of some of the trails and a little on the maintanence of these trails. The people of the city of Mission realy like this place, go see for yourselves on Saturday or Sunday evening, parking lot full of families having a good time. PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS BE TAKEN FROM US!!!!Flag

To trade one of these public spaces away to the highest bidder is a disservice to the health and well-being of the community and is shortsighted. The city should re-think it's decision and give the land back to its proper owners: the people of Mission.Flag

Name: GERARDO SALINAS on Aug 31, 2010Street Address: 742 NORMA AVE. ALAMO, TX. 78516Zip Code: 78516Comments: I HAVE FOUR BOYS THAT REALLY LOOK FORWARD TO RIDING TOGETHER AT MISSION TRAILS. ITS A PLACE WHERE WE ARE ABLE TO BOND AND HAVE A GREAT TIME AS A FAMILY. I AM ALSO INSPIRING THEM WITH THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IN GREAT PHYSICAL HEALTH AND THE WONDERS OF ACHIEVING THIS THROUGH MOUNTAIN BIKING AT MISSION TRAILS. THEY LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO SEE THE WILD LIFE AS WE RIDE THROUGH THE TRAILS. I HAVE SEEN MANY TEENAGE KIDS RIDING THE TRAILS THAT IF YOU WERE TO SEE THEM OUT ON THE STREET, ONE MIGHT THINK THAT THEY WERE UP TO SOMETHING BAD. INSTEAD OF BEING OUT THERE VANDALISING, BURGLARIZING, AND BEING MISCHIEVIOUS, THEY ARE AT THE MISSION TRAILS ENJOYING THEMSELVES AND BEING PART OF WHAT ENTICES US TO BEING MOUTAIN BIKERS. THEY ARE HARD TO MISS WHEN YOU SEE THEM OUT IN THE TRAIL. THEY SAY HI AS THEY RIDE PAST YOU AND MOST OFFER A HELPING HAND WHEN YOUR HAVING BIKE PROBLEMS. WITHOUT MISSION TRAILS, I WILL LOSE THAT SPECIAL PLACE WHERE I BOND WITH MY CHILDREN, A PLACE WHERE I AM ABLE TO BE PART OF A GREAT MEMORY IN THEIR CHILDHOOD. THE WILDLIFE WILL ALSO BE AFFECTED BY A FENCE BUILT AROUND MANY ACRES OF LAND. THOSE TEENAGERS THAT WE SEE IN THE TRAILS WILL HAVE TO RESORT TO HANGING OUT ON THE STREET AGAIN THINKING OF WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR TIME. PEOPLE WITH GUNS KILL PEOPLE BUT PEOPLE WITH MOUTAIN BIKES RIDE TO BE A BETTER PERSON IN MANY WAYS ( PHYSICAL HEALTH, MENTAL HEALTH, FAMILY BONDING, SOCIAL SKILLS AND ON AND ON). CITY LEADERS NEED TO REALIZE THAT YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON WHAT I MENTION!Flag

Name: Richard R. Garcia on Aug 31, 2010Street Address: 110 E. Agostadero Street, Suite CZip Code: 78596Comments: As an avid trail bike rider, I am in uttermost disbelief on The City of Mission's decision to lease a sacred piece of trail-bike riding, hiking, and trail running land to a gun club. I call it sacred, due to the fact than other than Brownsville there is no other place to ride all-terrain bicycles in the Valley. Not to mention the many man/woman hours of love, blood, sweat, and tears that have been put into those trails for the love of our sport. A true testamonial is to just drive by the trail head parking lot in the later afternoon, where you will witness a parking lot full to capacity. Furthermore, as a transplant here, I commonly hear other folks mention that the RGV is limited in extracurricular outdoor activities. People want an outlet. There are only so many times you can experience non caloric burning activities, such as a BBQ, dining out, going to the movies, and watching a football game. Our youths of today need this outlet, because what the devil does with idle time is abundantly littered across the media. In addition being originally from California where I used to do road cycling, by comparison it is my opinion the Rio Grande Valley is not condusive to long distance road cycling. Due to many factors, which include road conditions, disrespectful drivers, and uncontained dogs. For those reasons I gravitated towards mountain biking at the Mission Nature Park. And now the city wants to take that away, a healhty sport that promotes so many benefits. I mean realistically how many skeet and trap places are there in the Valley, as compared to outdoor trail cycliing, running and hiking. I am desperately pleading with you to please reconsider and reverse your decision to lease the property to the Mission Skeet and Trap Club. Hopefully not an X mountain Biker, Richard GarciaFlag

They are good for biking, running, family hikes. I've seen people from all walks of life using these trails. From winter texans to high school cross country teams are seen using these trails regularly. Many volunteers from Mission and surrounding areas have and do put many hours of work into building and maintaining these trails. It would be a shame to see they're hard work handed to a private entity for they're own private usage. Give them the land on the east side of they're club.Flag

Name: Rachel Gonzalez on Aug 31, 2010Street Address: 521 Amigos LaneZip Code: 78570Comments: I cannot believe my hometown is wanting to get rid of this wonderful bike/hike trail. I was so happy to see that the city of Mission had done something different that its citizens could enjoy. When I moved away, I said,"aww, no more bike/trail," because the town I moved to, does not have anything like it. It is very dissappointing to hear they want to lease it to a skeet club. With obesity running rampant in the valley, this trail is more of an asset than a skeet club!Flag

If it was not for these trails, I would not have had an interest in biking at all. I have also seen an increase of people using the trails and families walking and riding on the paved trails. This would be a big blow to the recreational lifestyle the Valley lacks. Please keep the trails alive!!Flag

TOUCAN AVE. / MCALLENZip Code: 78504Comments: THIS IS IN STRONG OPPOSITION TO THE ACTION BY THE CITY OF MISSION IN THEIR LEASING OF A SECTION OF MISSION TRAILS. THE GUN CLUB POSES A DANGER TO THE COMMUNITY AS IT CURRENTLY OPERATES. EXPANSION WOULD INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF INJURY OR DEATH TO A CHILD OR FAMILY DURING RECREATIONAL OUTINGS.Flag

It's a one of a kind park in all the RGV. The City of Mission is willing to destroy a park were families & friends come together to enjoy nature and exercise outdoors, to give space to guns and shooting. UNBELIVABLE. For me, PARK = HEALTHYFlag

The tress, shrubs, cacti ...which are indigenous to our area should not be abandoned by limiting their showcasing.
