MTA: Address Our Concerns About Q Line Construction
Subway station renovation has shut down Manhattan-bound platforms at Parkside Avenue, Beverely Road, and Cortelyou Road since August 2013, and is projected to continue until 'mid-fall,' perhaps as late as Nov 31st. Now the MTA has revealed they'll be undertaking the same renovations on southbound platforms at the same three stations in 2014 from January-April or beyond. This loss of access to northbound trains is costing commuters (especially at the Beverly and Cortelyou stops) upwards of 30 minutes in extra travel to or towards Manhattan. Now we have a winter of the same delays to look forward to, having to transfer at outdoor subway stations on the Q line (or walk several avenue blocks from Newkirk or Church ave stations) in potentially sub-zero temperatures. This will be inconvenient to all MTA customers, and potentially worse for the very young, the elderly, and the disabled. Help us ask the MTA to accelerate their renovations (which seem to be happening ridiculously slowly on the stations in question, involving very few workers working very few hours,) or, better yet, to focus their work on the stations one at a time, presumably completing each station more quickly, and allowing Cortelyou customers to walk to the Beverly stop, and vice versa.
