Name: Brenda J. Gannam on Jan 28, 2005Country: LBComments: In my humble opinion, the "human cost" of any war does not just include those who die, but all those who are injured, directly or indirectly -- physically, mentally, spiritually, economically, etc., not only now, but far into the future. If men are so good at "math" as recent articles in the news have asserted, then why is it they can't seem to come up with the right answer on this one Just do the math!Flag

Name: J.A. Rayyis on Jan 31, 2005Country: USComments: I'm disappointed that your section on the Human Costs of the US campaign and occupation of Iraq only lists casualties within the US-lead coalition forces. A nation of Iraqis, whether they be Shia, Sunni, Kurds, Turkomen, Armenians, or Chaldeans has also suffered, and tens of thousands, overwhelmingly civilians, have lost their lives. While it is admittedly difficult to compile accurate numbers from these different groups, some sort of acknowledgment, perhaps citing estimates from the Red Cross/Red Crescent or human rights organizations, is only fair. And, as for coalition casualties, you might take care to compile a tally of those who were injured in Iraq but may have died while under care in US military hospitals outside of Iraq. Just because the Pentagon shamefully besmirches the memory of these brave soldiers by no counting them among other Iraqi casualties does not mean that an independent news organization has to do the same.Flag
