We are petitioning to reinstate a Codington Elementary decision to loop up Ms. Klingensmith's 2008-2009 Kindergarten class together into First grade for the following reasons: First, with three teacher aide changes throughout the school year our children have already been exposed to emotional and educational inconsistencies. They should move up together and given the opportunity to start first grade in a stable and structured environment not necessary offered the current year due to all the staff changes. Second, parents took the decision to loop up their children very seriously. Many researched, asked friends, and consulted other parents that had looped up and came to the realization that this change would be in the best interest of their children. The school letter send home that informed parents that Ms. Klingensmith was moving to teach First Grade and that current students could loop up was a surprise. But, all involved signed the notice and informed their children of the change. The children have become accustomed to the idea and most expect the decision that was made by administration to take place. The students deserve to have an administration that honors their decisions. Finally, these students deserve to loop up together with the current teacher or another qualified teacher because most are considerably upset and many parents were not given the opportunity to have a say in this critical decision. This decision should not be made for what is best for a teacher or Codington but what is best for the students. The new letter sent home informing us that our children would be pooled between all first grade classes was done without asking parents of Ms. Klingensmith's class how they felt about the new decision. As parents we believe that if the current teacher cannot loop up with the current Kindergarten class then the children must be allowed to enter into the situation they were promised and have the ability to enjoy a consistant environment going into the following year.
