MSA Stage 5 model costs
email from Craig “The total cost for materials was approx £2500 £900 of mdf equates to (according to B&Q retail prices
£15.68sheet) 57 sheets of
2.4mx1.2mx18mm, how we managed to use almost 3 solid cubic meters of mdf is
baffling even accounting for waste. £1000 of cork and tape may be accurate though much harder to
quantify. £60 for Perspex may be correct. There are 4 points which this petition wishes to raise Petition calls for; 1)
Transparency of material costs and justification
of figures quoted/charged. 2)
Acceptance by the school that it should not have
assumed that students would be willing or able to make this expenditure in
addition to existing studio fees and other expenses burdened upon them. 3)
Removal of charge or at very least the re-assessment
of figure to a more agreeable amount. 4)
Clarification as to the legality of refusing to
allow students to graduate if this additional charge has not been settled. If you agree with all of the above please sign this petition
to assist both our year and the years to follow.
This petition has been created to provide a concerted voice
against what are seen as inappropriate charging for 1:500 site models for the
2009/2010 year 5 at the Mackintosh School of Architecture.
The Facts: we have
been charged
£900 MDF
£1000 Cork
£540 Double sided tape
£60 Perspex
This works out at roughly £40 per student"
