The goal with this petition is to create a Marine protected area (MPA) somewhere along the coastline of Santorini in Greece. An MPA serve as a protected zone for the marine environment. An area where any form of human impact is forbidden. Santorini has a long history of human impact on the sea. With everything from overfishing to the impact from the tourism industry. But even if the Marine environment is damaged, Santorini holds a great deal of potential and creating an MPA would be the most effective way to restore and protect this beautiful place. Please note that by creating an MPA we do not aim to forbid fishing at Santorini. Just to to create a fishing free zone at a specific area. Since the marine life in this area will recover and grow during the years the fish will spread to the surrounding areas. And in that way creating more fish for the fishing industry along the rest of the coastline. The MPA also serve as great recreational area for tourists and in that way adding to the tourism industry. So please help us to protect this beautiful coastline and to make Santorini take a step forward in protecting the sea.
